Apple juicing at Disco Soup

Hi all
It's been a quiet period for Abundance, I've been up to my ears in
work so haven't organised anything since the first harvest we did
unfortunately :( However, I still have some Bramley apples in storage
( ~30kg).
I was talking to Jess from foodsharing about doing something at Disco
Soup next sunday, a event foodsharing puts on cooking a big meal from
waste food / gleaned from farms. It's at Saughton Winter Gardens. We
thought it'd be a perfect opportunity to do some juicing with
Abundance, giving folks the chance to press their own glass of juice.
It'd also be a kind of publicity to meet many like minded people, a
way to distribute the fruit, and have a social together as
Abundancers.
I've run this before in Sheffield so happy to coordinate it
beforehand but will need to get hold of our small press/ scratter and
associated equipment. Is it all stored at the hospital by the
cyrenians - it's very near me so can collect it if somebody knows who
I should get in touch with?
I'd also love for as many people to come to help out on the day, if
anyone can offer a hand in advance? We'll be setting up there from 9,
and the event runs from 11 - 4. Any additional donations of fruit
would be fab as i think we'll only get 10 - 15L of juice from fruit I
have, which is like 30 cups full. Any leaflets/ banners etc would also
be good to have.

Hi Nic,

Yes, I was not sure whether the abundance group had been active in the last few weeks on Facebook or not but when I got Jess's email with a doodle poll re organizing a meeting I thought that perhaps it had not been.

Sounds like a good idea joining in with the disco soup. When is this taking place?

Valla had given me Rachel's details in 2015 when I had wanted to get hold of the presses once and Rachel had mentioned then that she would be happy for us to help them deal with the requests they got to borrow the presses because the logistic of it was quite time consuming. In the end I did not borrow them at the time and so I have not met with Rachel and does not know where the presses are exactly but if you speak to her I'm sure it should be fine if things are planned early enough.

Thanks valla, those would both be useful. Would I be able to fit the banner on the back of my bike if i come round for it in the next few days?

 Have you seen Rachel Helm's email, just to check that it's alright to give me the press tomorrow. Sorry that you're still being asked to approve stuff like this for Abundance, Jess and I will talk with Rachel about how a more efficent system could work to loan it in the future.

Just to reiterate, Disco Soup will be on this Sunday the 4th Dec, starting at 11 till 4 at Saughton Winter Gardens, EH11 3BQ. We have access from seven in the morning to set up if you fancy coming to help with the chaotic start of these things. Just let me know if anybody fancies lending a hand :) I'll also be sending an email round the main list closer to the time advertising the event and abundance's prescece there.
