Dear Valla,
I would be grateful if you could distribute this email to your members and supporters.
You may be aware that due to much needed development at the hospital the beautiful gardens that had been developed over at Myreside had to be moved. Some of the orchard has also been sacrificed to this cause too.
The good news is that we are still here, albeit in a new site. The orchard will be accessible to us, by arrangement with the building contractors at harvest time and we look forward to putting the apples to good use once again and for many years to come. Our new garden is in an open sunny position and very much still in development although we have got off to a pretty good start and are hopeful of continued good harvests.
We are open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 – 4, and we will also be at Morningside Market (behind the Merlin pub on Saturday 20th June) with veg, eggs and plants for sale.
We are in need of new members to help out with gardening tasks, odd jobs, cooking, housekeeping in the cabin and glasshouse and I would like to spread the message that we are very much open! To help manage the number of new enquiries I have scheduled a series of introductory sessions over the next couple of months and attendance at one of these would be beneficial for anyone considering becoming involved:
Wed 17th June 10.30 – 12.30
Fri 26th June 10.30 – 12.30
Tues 14th July 10.30 – 12.30
Wed 27th July 10.30 – 12.30
Fri 31st July 10.30 – 12.30
In addition to members we also seek volunteers to form three teams working in a rota during our opening times:
Patient Engagement Volunteers – to work alongside patients
Volunteer Activity Leaders – to lead tasks in the gardens
Volunteer Visitor Leaders – to welcome visitors, help them understand the garden, take feedback etc.
All of these roles are detailed, alongside an application form at http://www.cyrenians.org.uk/get_involved/volunteering.aspx
Meanwhile if people are just interested in seeing what we are up to and staying in touch they could follow us on Facebook by clicking on the ‘F’ in my signature below.
I also attach a map and instructions for the curious.
Warm Regards,
Rachel Helms
