Here's an update from our last meeting to discuss the upcoming harvest season and Abundance Edinburgh organisation in general:
We decided that we are not able to carry on with the harvest season in the way that we have done in previous years.
Currently,
Abundance is relying on a small number of people to answer e-mails and
to organise picking, distributing and processing fruit. We get lots of
offers of fruit all over the city in autumn and it is quite a task to
manage this, as well as fulfill our own work and personal commitments.
Those of us who are in this position would like to take a step back from
this, as we have realised that we don't have the capacity or energy to
carry on as we have done in previous years.
So we agreed to do the following
- Set
up an automatic e-mail response to the Abundance e-mail account,
informing people who are offering fruit that we have a reduced capacity
and that if we are able to pick their fruit, someone will be in touch.
It will also give details of groups/organisations in different parts of
the city who might come and harvest fruit or take donations.
 - If
anyone wants to pick fruit, they can organise something themselves and
can let the group know. If you would like receive e-mails
from people offering fruit, please let us know and we'll work out a way to do this easily.
 - Only
pick what each individual needs, and stop taking fruit away to give on
to other groups (unless an individual wants to do this and organises it
themselves).
 - Cease to attend events and cease to run our own apple pressing events.
 - Lend
our apple pressing equipment to another group long-term, with the
agreement to look after it and to allow us access when requested. The
Royal Edinburgh Hospital Community Garden was identified as the most
appropriate organisation, and has agreed to host the equipment.
 - Continue to do foraging walks, organised by people as and when they want to.

We're not disbanding but going into dormancy.
