The answer seemed to be yes. I made a .reg file to capture those two additional registry entries on the other computer; sneakered it over to the troubled machine; double-clicked on the .reg file to run it; and now Cool Edit was willing to run.
I have no idea if that .reg file will fix your problem, destroy your computer, or burn your house down. Use at your own risk. I can only say that, so far, running it on the troubled computer seems to have fixed the problem, at least for the time being.
Another way to proceed would have been to restore or at least mount an image backup of the troubled system (I use AOMEI Backupper) and go poking around in there for the missing registry keys. That way, I would have had the correct .reg edits for this machine. I just copied them over from the other computer because that was faster. I had System Restore and .adi images to fall back on if this trashed my system. Hopefully everyone knows by now to have a system backup before messing with the registry.
RonKelly1 seemed to say that he was able to fix the Cool Edit trial version problem on his Win10 system by copying over the C:\Program Files (x86)\Cool2000 folder from a Win8 system. Cool Edit was working and properly registered on the Win8 system; it was installed and registered but still working only as a trial on the Win10 system; but overwriting that nonworking Cool2000 folder on the Win10 machine with the working Cool2000 folder from the Win8 machine fixed the Win10 installation. Sad to say, this did not work for me, bringing over that folder from a working Cool Edit installation on another Win10 system. Even after re-running the registration file, it remained in trial mode. Possibly it would have worked if, like him, I had been bringing over that folder from a prior version of Windows, instead of from another Win10 machine.
The good news would be that, once I got Cool Edit working in the VM (even in a type 2 hypervisor like VMware Player. I would be able to run it (and any other legacy programs I wished to install in the VM) forevermore, as long as Windows or Linux or somebody supported my type 2 hypervisor. Park the VM in an external SSD and it might be both fast and portable. The existing Cool Edit installation could also provide non-Win10 program files for use in some of the fixes discussed above. This may become the preferred solution for those who find that Win10 continues to create problems for Cool Edit.
Hi thank you very much for this forum. Selecting your advice to Run As Administrator worked! I set the properties to run CoolEdit 2000 as Administrator automatically and it works perfectly. Problem solved ?
I have uploaded the Phat, Eq and Toys plug-in files and the tutorials supplied by regisf46183422 to the Drop Box area. The tutorials do not need serial numbers to activate but the Phat, Eq and Toys do. Enjoy.
If you have Monkey's Audio installed on your computer, copy the file APE.DLL from the Monkey's Audio folder to the CoolEdit2000 folder, so that you can read Monkey's Audio files (.APE) with CoolEdit2000.
I amnot sure if this is an appropriate place to ask, but I have a registered version of CoolEditPro 2.1 and a registration serial number but I have no longer got the cep2reg.exe file. Does anyone have a copy or could it perhaps be put on the Dropbox site?
I wonder if anyone here can advise me? I have a registered copy of CE2000 which I have had since the year 2000 and have installed successfully on many pcs with most versions of Windows since then. I recently replacced my studio pc with a 2nd user Acer desktop purchased with a Windows 10 Pro licence which I activated. When I installed CoolEdit 2000, it all proceeded normally with no error messages or warnings. However, when I attempted the first run prior to registering, a message box told me that the program was not correctly installed on this machine and advised me to run the set-up again. I have tried this an d got no further. I even ran the C2Kreg program and registered the installation but still it won't start. It gets as far as briefly showing the Splash screen and then reverts to the same errror message. The version of Windows 10 pro is 2004. I also have an Acer swift laptop running Windows 10 Home version 1903, so I tried installing CE2000 on that and had no problem at all. It loaded, accepted registration and runs perfectly.
Can anyone suggest what the problem might be with the Windows 10 Pro installation? I have since successfully installed Cool Edit Pro versions 1.0 and 2.0 both of which will run ok although version 1.0 does bring up the same error message unless I right click the icon and open it as administrator. That works for Cool Edit pro 1.0 but not for CE2000. CE pro 2.0 happily runs without the administrator step.
The fact that the error only appears after the programs, in both cases, have begun to open, suggests that there is a problem with a setting or a file that is checked at a late stage during the startup but I am unable to discover anything further. I could just accept the Cool Edit Pro installation but I actually prefer CE2000 for the work that I do ( mainly transfers from tape and vinyl with some minor editing and noise reduction) and I have become familiar with it. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated. Thank-you
I don't know what causes this, but it's been reported before that different versions of Windows 10 don't all behave the same way. It's probably got something to do with the way the emulation is handled - assuming that this is 64 bit Windows that you are running. No chance of fixing it, whatever it is, I'm afraid.
I had a similar problem, the only thing different than what you posted is that my error is, After I register it , and it works, tells me it was successful . I try to record and it still gives the dings like in the demo mode. I can't get it to stop.
I hope there is someone who can help me. I purchased mine in 2002 I bought the Cool Edit pro bundle. I have the Cool Edit 2000 and The Cool Edit Plug n Play Pro 2000. I tried un-installing and re-installing and registering several times but it still won't get out of dinging mode......I love my Cool Edit. I sure hope there is someone out there who know's how to fix this.
I have a purchased Cool Edit 2000 and Cool Edit Plug-Play Pro. I installed it on my new Dell Laptop with windows 10, And I put in my purchase code, it works and it opens. But when I try to record anything it still works as a Demo with dings. And I know I put it in correctly, cause it tells me it did, that I succeded and need to run once for it to take . But it still won't get out of demo mode. Can anyone help me. I have the ce2reg.exe to register it. That works fine except the purchased version won't get out of demo mode. PLEASE HELP. I've done this for severl years and different pc' and it has always worked. I bought this in 2002 and never had a problem before. I love this software and feel lost without it. I hope someone out there knows how to trouble shoot this problem.
Can I record what I hear from the speakers with cool edit 2000?
My other computer has a loopback feature in the sound card, and I can record what I hear out of the speakers with any recording program. For some reason, I thought cool edit 2000 could record what I hear... is this possible? I can't seem to find a manual to help me...
A: We are not sure why Cool Edit does this. You will need to uninstall and reinstall Cool Edit 2000 on that machine.
The installation files for Cool Edit 2000 are located in the \wire\install\cool2000 folder on the drive letter that WireReady32 is running from.
First you need to uninstall Cool Edit
This can be done from the menu under the Windows Start/Programs menu, or using Add/Remove Programs from the Control Panel. After you get the message that Cool Edit was successfully uninstalled, you will need to manually delete some files that the uninstall process did not remove.
Do a search for files or folders, and have it search for "cool" on the local drive. This may find files that are not associated with Cool Edit, so look at the filenames and folders carefully before deciding which files to delete. Once you find all the files associated with Cool Edit, and have deleted them, you are ready to reinstall Cool Edit 2000.
Reinstall CoolEdit
First run the CE2Kmain.exe. This will install Cool Edit 2000 as a trial version. It will come up with a window that will allow you to search for updates on the web. Since Syntrillium was sold, you should tell it to not check for updates and tell it to not show this message again. Once it is installed, you should close it and run CE2Kreg.exe. This will allow you to register the program. Use the registration information you were provided to register Cool Edit 2000.
If you have purchased the Studio Plug-In/Multi-Track Mixer, you can run the CE2Kstud.exe. This will install the 4-track mixer. It will give you the opportunity to register it after it is installed. Choose "Already Purchased" and enter the registration information you were provided.
Cool Edit should now be installed and should operate normally.
You can use ClickFix (full version) for as long as you wish before registering. However, until you register, you are limited to processing up to 30 minutes of signal per Adobe Audition or Cool Edit session, and you can use Force Fix up to 30 times per Adobe Audition or Cool Edit session. When you register, you will receive a Password (as an email attachment) to "unlock" the software. This will remove the limits, and allow you to use the software indefinitely. Your registration will be effective for all future releases of ClickFix (full version), so there are no costs to upgrade.
I do it with cool edit pro right now with no problems, I was just wondering if there was a fix as I am considering upgrading to adobe audition, the rest of the features look similar. I use wmp to do this as well, but I find there is less distortion with cep.
