Tobias was born to Marcus and Evelyn Eaton in the Abnegation faction. His father was said to have noticed his Divergence at a young age and became observant of him since then. Evelyn supposedly died when Tobias was young, leaving Tobias alone with Marcus. Tobias became a victim to his father's cruelty. During his aptitude tests he got an Abnegation result, but chose Dauntless as his faction at the Choosing Ceremony to escape his father. During his initiation training, when he went through his fear landscape, it was discovered Tobias only had four fears, with the average being between ten and fifteen. As a result, his instructor, Amar, started calling him "Four." Tobias accepted it so he could escape his past. He finished first in his initiation class, and chose to work in the intelligence sector of Dauntless, but also decided to train the initiates.

Four: A Divergent Collection is a collection of five short stories from the Divergent trilogy, told from Tobias Eaton's (Four) perspective, and written by Veronica Roth.[1][2][3][4][5] The first story of the collection, Free Four: Tobias Tells the Divergent Knife-Throwing Scene, was released as an e-book on April 23, 2012.[6] The second story, The Transfer, was released on September 3, 2013.[7] The third story titled The Initiate,[8][9] the fourth story The Son[10][11] and the fifth and final story The Traitor were released on July 8, 2014.[12][13] Simultaneously with the release of last three short stories, a collected edition of the five short stories titled Four: A Divergent Collection was released on July 8, 2014, which also features three exclusive scenes.[14][15]

Tobias is introduced to his instructor, Amar, and his fellow initiates, including Erudite transfer Eric. In a slight change, the initiates now have to face their fears right after making the jump from the roof. Tobias' four fears: his acrophobia, claustrophobia, remorse for shooting innocents, and his father's abuses, astonishes Amar. Since no other Dauntless has that low of a number of fears, Amar gives Tobias his new name: "Four".

Actually, he wasn't being serious, like, "Everyone has to choose a new name when they jump." Christina wasn't like that.
He saw that Tris hesitated when she started saying her name, so Tobias was just giving her the chance to choose a new one, like he got a new name, even though it was not exactly chosen by him.
Now, back to Tobias's name, Four. When he was initiated, the first thing they did was do the fear landscapes. So when Amar found out that Tobias only had four fears, he dubbed Tobias "Four."

Tobias "Four" Eaton is a member of Dauntless and serves as the instructor to the initiates transferring into Dauntless. He was born in the Abnegation faction to Marcus Eaton and Evelyn Johnson. His mother supposedly died and left him with his abusive father, who would strike him with his belt. During his Choosing Ceremony, he chooses Dauntless as his faction to escape Marcus. He has dark blue eyes and dark brown hair with a scar on his chin and a few freckles on his nose. He has tattooed the symbol of each faction on his spine, starting from Dauntless at the top, then Abnegation, Candor, Erudite and Amity. He gets the nickname "Four" from his instructor Amar due to having only four fears: heights, shooting innocents, claustrophobia and his father, Marcus Eaton.[5]

In Insurgent, he appears at Amity with the others, still suffering from the bullet wound. Later he steals the Erudite disk from Tris's room but later gets caught and beaten up by Tris. During the Erudite and Dauntless traitors' attack on Amity, Tris saves his life. When Tris surrenders herself to Erudite, she finds out that after the attack on Amity, Peter has joined the Erudite and he is assigned as her guard. To make up for owing her his life, he fakes her death and helps her and Four escape from Erudite. He arrives at Abnegation where factionless and Dauntless are staying and Edward confronts him. He declines to join the others in their invasion at Erudite. In Allegiant, Peter participates in the escape from Chicago and arrives at the Bureau of Genetic Welfare. He joins the four-man team to save the people of Chicago from having their memories wiped by the Memory Serum. During the war, Four gives a memory serum to Peter to reset his memory when Peter states that he no longer wants to be mean and cruel and wants to change, showing that he does regret his cruel personality and actions.

In Allegiant, he is part of the group sent by the Allegiant to explore the fringes, alongside Tris, Four, Christina, Peter, Cara, and Tori, and arrives at the Bureau of Genetic Welfare. During Nita's rebellion, Uriah is seriously injured by a bomb and enters persistent vegetative state. Tobias, who set the bomb, blames himself for this as he previously promised Zeke that he would protect Uriah. The Bureau originally want to turn off his life support straight away but Christina pleads with them to extend it for four days, so Uriah's family can be informed. He dies towards the end of the book and his family (mother and his brother) are with him as he gets unplugged. Uriah's body is then cremated with his ashes scattered by Zeke and Hana down The Chasm, as the epilogue reveals.

Amar is a former Dauntless instructor for initiates outside of Dauntless. He was Four's instructor during the latter's initiation and, as revealed in The Transfer, was the one who gave him his nickname, with which he was commonly known thereafter, due to his record-breaking number of four fears, the fewest of them all. Amar was later discovered to be a Divergent and apparently killed, with his body found near the railroad tracks. Four suspects that Amar's death was caused by Eric. In Allegiant, it is revealed that along with George Wu and fellow former instructor Zoe, Amar is still alive, having been rescued by the Bureau of Genetic Welfare outside of Chicago. He is reunited with his protégé, Four, who is part of a seven-man group fleeing the city. Together with Christina, Four, and Peter, Amar participates in the mission to save the Chicago population from having their memory wiped by David. The epilogue reveals that Amar utilizes his Dauntless ability to become a police officer.

miRNAs are approximately 22-nt RNA molecules that play important roles in post-transcriptional regulation. We have performed small RNA sequencing in the nematodes Caenorhabditis elegans, C. briggsae, C. remanei, and Pristionchus pacificus, which have diverged up to 400 million years ago, to establish the repertoire and evolutionary dynamics of miRNAs in these species. In addition to previously known miRNA genes from C. elegans and C. briggsae we demonstrate expression of many of their homologs in C. remanei and P. pacificus, and identified in total more than 100 novel expressed miRNA genes, the majority of which belong to P. pacificus. Interestingly, more than half of all identified miRNA genes are conserved at the seed level in all four nematode species, whereas only a few miRNAs appear to be species specific. In our compendium of miRNAs we observed evidence for known mechanisms of miRNA evolution including antisense transcription and arm switching, as well as miRNA family expansion through gene duplication. In addition, we identified a novel mode of miRNA evolution, termed "hairpin shifting," in which an alternative hairpin is formed with up- or downstream sequences, leading to shifting of the hairpin and creation of novel miRNA* species. Finally, we identified 21U-RNAs in all four nematodes, including P. pacificus, where the upstream 21U-RNA motif is more diverged. The identification and systematic analysis of small RNA repertoire in four nematode species described here provides a valuable resource for understanding the evolutionary dynamics of miRNA-mediated gene regulation.

During the fear test, he figures out that Tris is a divergent because she can beat the test unlike any he has seen before. "Dauntless don't break the glass like that." But he doesn't do anything about it.

Based on these facts, I assume Four is also a divergent. But, his own fear test makes me think otherwise. Is he capable of escaping the test as Tris is, but chooses to endure it for the show or what?

I think that he wants to protect her and does not want to kill her and tori wants to protect her from the fate her brother had which is death. I think yes four is divergent because he doesn't have anyone close to him by blood that is divergent and he doesn't want to kill tris when she is divergent and they say divergents are dangorous

Background: Highly pathogenic (HP) H5N1 avian influenza virus (AIV) was introduced to Egyptian poultry in 2006 and has since become enzootic. Vaccination has been utilized as a control tool combined with other control methods, but for a variety of reasons, the disease has not been eradicated. In 2007, an antigenically divergent hemagglutinin subclade, 2.2.1.1, emerged from the original clade 2.2.1 viruses.

Objectives: The objective was to evaluate four diverse AIV isolates for use as vaccines in chickens, including two commercial vaccines and two additional contemporary isolates, against challenge with numerous clade 2.2.1 and clade 2.2.1.1 H5N1 HPAIV Egyptian isolates to assess the variation in protection among different vaccine and challenge virus combinations.

Methods: Vaccination-challenge studies with four vaccines and up to eight challenge strains with each vaccine for a total of 25 vaccination-challenge groups were conducted with chickens. An additional eight groups served as sham-vaccinated controls. Mortality, mean death time, morbidity, virus, and pre-challenge antibodies were evaluated as metrics of protection. Hemagglutination inhibition data were used to visualize the antigenic relatedness of the isolates.

What factors predict the originality of domain-specific idea generation? Replicating and extending an earlier study using a Design Product Ideation task in an introductory university design course, the present research, grounded in the componential theory of creativity, assessed the relative contributions to originality of design ideation from five factors: divergent thinking, personality traits, general cognitive ability, prior creative experience, and task-specific challenge/interest. The Design Product Ideation task asked participants, at two different timepoints, to propose ideas for products to improve either the experience of urban gardening or of outdoor picnics. Four divergent thinking tasks were used, including the predominantly conceptually-based Alternative Uses Task, a newly developed perceptually-based Figural Interpretation Quest, and two modified verbal tasks from the Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking (Torrance Suppose and Torrance Product). Regression analyses revealed that, at both timepoints, originality on the Design Product Ideation tasks was predicted by multiple divergent thinking, personality, and task-based factors. Originality of responses to the Figural Interpretation Quest was a significant predictor at both timepoints, and continued to add incremental value after controlling for the other divergent thinking measures. Collectively, these findings indicate that the four divergent thinking tasks, though related, do not measure identical constructs, and that many individual difference components, both trait-based (e.g., openness to experience) and more specifically task-based (e.g., perceived challenge of the task), shape creative performance. Methodologically, and from a practical standpoint, these findings underscore the value of incorporating both conceptual and perceptual measures of divergent thinking as contributors to originality in domain-specific idea generation.
