Hi guys,

was playing around with the new Kanban plug in and something came to mind - it is a fast way to populate task fields.
If the view is made 2 directional with an attribute in both directions then from the resultant table dragging the task to the cell would populate two task fields.
Let's give some examples for application.
New tasks are entered.  When processing the tasks we need to indicate who is going to do it and under which category the task is.  Normally this would mean selecting these items from the drop down lists.  With this idea "allocated to" would be set as a x-axis and "category" as y-axis.  The task would be dropped onto the resulting cell and both person and category are allocated in a single step.
I seen also some discussions about the Eisenhower matrix.  For that, set x-axis and y-axis to let's say status and category to indicate urgency and importance.  Again, from the result 4 quadrants, new tasks are dragged and dropped to populate urgency and importance.

Thx Brendan.

I think this would be very confusing for the general user (and me)

>> I seen also some discussions about the Eisenhower matrix

The more I think about this, the more I feel that the restriction on only 4 possible combinations would not make this ultimately very useful.

But keep the ideas coming!

always looking for a lazy way!
Regarding the 4 quadrants, I think appfluence has done something like this (https://appfluence.com/)

I may spoken too quickly :)

I can definitely see the opportunity (as part of the Fixed Column setup) to allow (multiple) other attributes to be set after dragging a task to another column.

What's important to note is that this behaviour would only operate when interacting directly with the Kanban columns and not, for instance, when adjusting the 'tracked' variable explicitly via its field below the tasklist.

I can also see the value of allowing multiple 'sets' of Fixed Columns to be be stored, much like the Find Tasks dialog can store multiple searches.

Definitely not 7.1.

"I feel that the restriction on only 4 possible combinations would not make this ultimately very useful"

Only having the 4 quadrants is kind of the point.  It is simple.
Effectively it allows tasks to be put into 4 high level categories, each having a specific type of action (i.e. Do, Defer/Decide, Delegate, Dump/Delete).  It is an initial, high level decision filter on what to do, and just as importantly, what not to do.
Some people leave it at that.  Others then prioritize the members of the quadrants (e.g. Do1, Do2, Do3... - although I don't see the need to prioritize the Dump/Delete quadrant..).
Some systems call the quadrants by other names, or use A tasks, B tasks, etc... - hence priority A1, A2, A3,

Note there are variants of the Eisenhower matrix / 4Ds of time managment, and I have even seen one with 6Ds - 6 quadrants (sextants?).

I wasn't saying the Eisenhower matrix is not useful.

I was saying that using it as a way of 'setting multiple attribute values' would not be useful because of its very limited UI.

Apologies.  I misread :-/.  Clear enough with hindsight.
