Hi I am using the comments extensively.
Since Version 7.0.8 I have lost comments in Todo items.
  • Comment is completely empty
  • the drop down box for RichText, PlainText is empty
  • sometimes it is not possible to enter text in comment (i can see the cursor placed, list is not write protected nor has versioning, keystrokes lead to nothing)

Steps to reproduce (does not happen  always of course and not with new todo lists):

  • Mark more than one todo item where some have comments and some not (Rich and plain text)
  • Do a mass operation such like adding a tag to all marked todo items
  • as soon as you press return or go back to the list all comments in the marked items are lost
  • unfortunately happens also when i mark multiple items in a backup list and want to copy to my original todolist - comments lost

This is a big problem for me because I use todo list for many thing such as a knowledge base. I have backups though. Difficult to send a sample cause it has business data in the list.

Keeping on to reproduce with a simpler list and will post.

Hi Thomas

If you select multiple tasks with mixed comments types then both the droplist and the content is shown blank which is consistent with the rest of the software where multiple tasks are selected but have different values. The comments field also becomes temporarily read-only until the comments type is explicitly set.

If you were to explicitly set the comments type at this point, all the selected tasks would get the new comments type but their content ought to be unchanged (except you would lose any rich-text formatting if switching to 'simple text').

Likewise, if you were to re-select a single task, its original comments and type should be unchanged whatever other changes you made to the multiple task selection.

If however the comments are actually being overwritten as a consequence of making another attribute change then this is a very serious bug.

Hi,
I am sorry to say that the comments are indeed overwritten. I have comments where all of them became empty or have the same text.
It is serious because I lost data. It happens on my Windows 8.1 machine only. Anything I can do to help you finding out about the problem ?

I hope you have enable the auto-backup so you could minimize the data-loss?

Yes, I have plent of backups. However I did not instantly recognize the problem.
I made a small Todo List and I can reproduce the problem now.
Add 4 Items.
Add comments to all of them (some Attributes need to be different in the two items)
Mark 2 items
Add a tag
Press Return or click into another Field like categories.
Comments are lost

What other Windows versions have you tried?

Works with Windows 7.
Does not work with Windows 8.1.
Even with Version 7.0.9
See screencast attached.

Hi Tom

Just letting you know that I have confirmed that this is a bug on a VM of Windows 8.1.

Not sure if it is related or a different topic:
It happens sometimes that it is not possible to put the focus on the comment UI.
e.g. mark a todo item click into comment section
press CTRL-A
expected behavior: comment text is marked
actual behavior: comment and all todo items are marked
it is also impossible to enter text.
Workaround: restart todolist

Yes (Independent form my other posting  „Alloc field keeps focus“) I can confirm that sometimes there is this behaviour. I can not describe it exactly, because I clicked and typed around until it worked again, but I will watch if it happens again.

I am also aware of this issue but have been unable to reproduce it reliably and thus it remains unfixed.

I would be grateful for any information when this happens again.

Does this happen every time Tom?

If so, can you post a screenshot pls showing how and where you 'mark a todo item'?

With 7.0.10 I could not reproduce the error anymore. :) :)
Thank you for fixing this!!
