The author blogs about GTD-related issues often using ToDoList to demonstrate his ideas.

Tony: Might be good to add a link to this site on the wiki...

Will do. This will be a part of a new page I've been thinking about putting up about how to use ToDoList as part of a regular personal process. I've also started to follow articles on GTD, Time Management, Productivity, etc. I will be posting occasional links to the ToDoList Twitter and Facebook pages (https://twitter.com/AbstrToDoList and https://www.facebook.com/abstr.todolist). I can link to DoneBeforeBrekky as well.

Thanks for sharing, Dan!
As mentioned in one of the other posts I'm also using TDL as one of my tools following the GTD approach.
I have been studying GTD for many years beside other methods/ ideas in this field. Against this background please allow me to give the readers/ users here a little heads up in regard to DoneBeforeBrekky and GTD. For people unfamiliar with GTD, DoneBeforeBrekky is definitely not a good place to start getting to know GTD! There are some misconceptions or well meant simplifications that do not reflect the methodology of GTD at all.
What I really like about DoneBeforeBrekky is that it promotes ToDoList :)

Thx for your comments Ryan.

I am more that happy for you to fulfill that role. How do you see it playing out?

ps. I've also invited DBB to contribute to this forum...

Hi Dan,
Not sure what you mean by "How do you see it playing out?"

Thanks for the offer. However, I don't have a FB account and am not really keen on getting one :)

I just wanted to know more concretely what you meant by a 'little heads up' ?

The described system neglects some key principles of GTD. For example, it is mixing up collecting and processing, declaring Inbox(es) as not existent or in use, talking about an Inbox List and Reference List, the way items are processed/ categorized in terms of ASAP, scheduled etc., skipping a weekly review...
Happy to share more about it, but I think here is not the place to do so/ discuss GTD in general?
Let's focus on TDL :)

Hi Ryan

I take your point and have edited the title of the post to lessen the GTD aspect.

Evening guys,

I am the owner of donebeforebrekky and am happy to see the todolist community sharing ideas on Dan's great app.
On the donebeforebrekky site, I investigate various tools and techniques for task management.  For sure GTD is one of those tools and I have considered it's application along with other methodologies in the way I work.  In the end, it could be described as a mixture of ideas and it is one of the reasons I like todolist - the flexibility allows for such experimentation.
Simplenuity, I think you commented on the site also about these points on the "Simply Getting Things Done", article.  In this article I wrote "Getting Things Done is a very popular method of task management that has revolutionised the working lives of many.  And now, I will unceremoniously strip it down to the basics, do a Macgyver on the leftovers....".  Perhaps a bit brash but you can see the intention was certainly a divergence from standard GTD and the points you noted were conscious deviations.  The end result was then further adapted to enable greater emphasis on project type activities.

But you are right, not the place for a GTD discussion, this is the site for todolist.

Anyway, glad to see expert users/developers available here - no doubt I will have some simple questions to pose!

Thx for your response Brendan and your support.

Like your blog I have fought hard to keep TDL from becoming too highly specialised precisely so that it can be adapted to a wide variety of situations.

Brendan, I think your participation here is valuable. ToDoList is a tool. To use it more effectively it helps to know something about task management methodologies. I think ToDoList serves as a vehicle to introduce people to information such as that provided on your site. Reciprocally, once someone understands the concepts, a GTD-oriented site is a vehicle for finding tools like ToDoList to make use of what's been learned.

RE: GTD discussions
Dan, this group is labelled "support" but since we host discussions I think this is a great place for people to be asking how to use TDL in a procedural context as well as technical. The same holds for Kanban, integration with other environments, etc. If you agree, I'll include something about this in announcements.

I had an 'interesting' idea: If this group subscribed to your blog then your blogs posts might appear automatically.

Just an idea...

Hi Dan,

I don't want to clog up this group with unrelated material.  Perhaps best if I just post a link if it is relevant to the users here.

thanks

That would be great. I did consider it but it seemed like a big-ask!
