Question: Task Edit area not updating after changing visibility options

Pretty much what I said. I go into settings and either hide or unhide edit attribute fields, but the area at the bottom of the screen doesn't update with the changes - neither removes fields I set to hide, nor exposes fields I add.  It looks like it's just the default fields display from the default installation.  I'm guessing something on the back end can't be accessed or updated, but just a guess.  Any ideas on what I need to fix?

That worked, but now I'm confused - what's the point of Preferenced > Column/Attribute Visibility.  It's basically the same dialogue and settings.  But if changes there doesn't impact the UI, what's the point?
