Hello,

I've been using ToDoList on a regular basis for many weeks as a Project Manager. I use it to track tasks that are given to my team, which I'm the leader of (we work in the field of cyber security controls of a BIG organization and receive continuous requests).
In my opinion, it would be REALLY useful to have a "Workload" view.
This view should display all the people to which at least one task has been assigned, and show for each of them the following information (a table view should be fine):
  1. name of the person (first column)
  2. number of tasks the person is currently engaged on (open tasks only; if the task is completed it must not be taken into account)
  3. sum of the time (hrs and/or days) needed to complete all the tasks (at the current day)
  4. average daily man-hours (if more than 9 then set a red background for this value, if less than 6 then set a green background; those thresholds should be changeable in "Preferences")
  5. number of hours of work this person must work for the current week. If the amount exceeds the normal weekly amount (e.g. 8 hours x 5 days), a warning color should be triggered and an overload percentage should be displayed.
  6. optionally: same as previous item, but for the next week
  7. number of tasks which are expired this person is currently engaged on (open tasks only) and sum of the late days (e.g.: if you have task A expired two days ago and task B expired three days ago then you have a sum of the late days equal to 5).
This would be excellent to distribute workloads among people and manage your human workforce in an equilibrated way.
Some years ago when I was working abroad we had a similar "view" for managing projects and associated people, done with an Excel spreadsheet. If I'm able to find it I'll post a screenshot.
Of course many other things/features could be added in this view but I don't want to ask too much.

Thanks,

 Mike (MDF)

Thanks for your suggestion Mike.

Firstly, I'm always looking for interesting new 'Views' provided they satisfy the 'interesting' bit and they are fairly visually unique.

However, given the suggested table format and the fact that historically you satisfied this with Excel, I can imagine two other possible solutions (than a View):

1. A stylesheet which collates the information
2. A custom exporter which essentially would do the same job as the stylesheet

And if this was combined with the existing 'Export on Save' functionality then it could be hosted as a 'live' webpage.

Furthermore both of these would of course necessitate less involvement from me which is always my preference.

So if you want to continue to pursue the possibility of a new 'View' I would definitely want to see a fairly sexy screenshot...

Hello Dan,
maybe for some reason my answer didn't reach you (I'm sorry, Google Groups definitely is not a familiar environment to me, and probably I did not answer to your last post in the right way), so I'll re-send.
I attach the screenshot you have been asking for. In my opinion, it is a sexy one and would be a real eye candy in ToDoList!!
Doing the same with a stylesheet would be hard, since you do not need just to "collate" existing data but rather calculate new values and draw some nice graph.

I hope to hear soon good news from you,

 Mike

Yes thx Mike!

I'll need time to ponder it, but I've locked it to the top of the forum so it doesn't disappear!

Wow! This is both beautiful and very helpful.

Where do you find the time to do so much work on ToDoList?

Keep going!

This is great.

Could you add an option to filter the resources (people)? I'm afraid I could have too many people to show on my screen.
