Hello,

in ToDoList 7.0.12 there is a new bug:
In the task list the characters "ä", "ö" and "ü" can no longer be displayed.
ToDoList displays a "" (question mark) instead.
These characters are used very very often in German.
In 7.0.11 it was working.

Greetings

OLLI

P.S.
Please add version 7.0.12 here in the listbox "ToDList Version".  (DONE)

Yes, that's right. Please take a look at today's discussion for information about background and workaround:

Hello Daniel,

I have definitely no problem to load the old version and to save the tasklist in Unicode.
But some of my colleagues use ToDoList at work to manage their own tasks (the file is stored locally) and I am not allowed to see those task lists.
What solution do you offer for these users?
Do you plan to publish a fix soon?

Is it possible that your colleagues download version 7.0.11 too and convert their files themselves?

Hello Pierre,

this is definitely not possible.
They re computer noobs and ask me very silly things ;-)

Back to reality:
They are basic users and this is a step where they definitely need my help.
But they have private ToDo files that I am not allowed to see (their personal tasks).

So if this can be fixed via an update of ToDoList this should be done please.

Sorry Olli, I have thought about this a lot since the issue arose and I can determine no fix that will work around this issue.

All tasklists must be converted to Unicode by the users themselves.

Hello Dan,

sorry, I am not a programmer.
Can't you detects that the ToDo file has the old format and displays a message that the file must be saved in a new format (ask the user if he wants to save now).
If the user selects "Yes" then save the ToDo file in the new format?
So the user just needs to click on "yes" and does not have to select "File -> Save Tasklist as... -> Type -> Unicode")

This would be much more user friendly.

Thx Olli.

I've been giving it a lot more thought since this morning and will roll back the change tonight (7.0.12.1).

Hi Olli

it is simple, also for Noobs: everyone who uses TodoList is able to make it

a) Open the TDL file with 7.0.11

b) Take a look at the status bar, lower left corner

c) If there is „path+name (Unicode)“ (example „d:\mydata\projects\mytasks.tdl (Unicode)“ ), then no action if required

d) If there is only „path+name“ (example „d:\mydata\projects\mytasks.tdl“ ), then you have to

               - Save tasklist as ...

               - Filename: you can use the existing and overwrite the file

               - File Type: Unicode Tasklist

               - Press „Save“

That’s all. As usual, you should backup the files before modification.

It's okay Peter, I've decided that I could have done it better and will restore Ansi file loading in 7.0.12.1 whilst I figure something better out.

Hello Dan,

I have updated to 7.0.12.1 and opened my tasklist.
Here I see in the status bar "filename.tdl (Unicode)".
But I still see the "" in the task list.

I think I have opened my file in 7.0.12 and saved it but I did not save it as Unicode (not manually).
Maybe the file was already Unicode?

That would cause a problem. Can you retry with a backup pls?

Hello Dan,

I opened a file from 7.0.11 and there all characters like "ü" are displayed correctly.
Unfortunately I made some changes in 7.0.12, so I have to search for "" manually and replace it with the proper characters.
