Hi Dan,

For the recurrence options, the occurence 'Daily' offers in the 'Details' of option 'Every day(s)' a user defined field.
It allows to set a specific number of days (i.e. other than the default '1').

This feature is not existing so far in the 'Details of option 'Every weekday'.
As a consequence, when using the weekdays as reference, the current user's choice is:
  • either to change manually the date of next occurrence
      >>  no very easy, and possible (human) error in date selection of the next occurrence date
  • or to use the 'Every x days' option
      >>  no reliable, as weekend ( ! ) days are taken into account to calculate the next occurrence.
To solve this, a solution would be to have a new feature offering an additionnal user defined field (as it exists for 'Every Day(s)'.
It would give the possibility to change the current implicit '1' for 'Every weekday' by a user defined figure (e.g. becoming 'Every 3 weekday(s)' ).

Thanks & Have a nice day
Eric

Isn't this handled by the Weekly options, where you get to specify exactly what days to repeat on?

If not, can you give me an example that would require such a change?

Hi Dan,

Unless I did miss a feature, the 'weekly' option is using fixed weekday (i.e. without possibility to shift from one day to another in the patern).

Please find hereunder the example you asked for.
In my opinion, this case can't be setup without the existing 'weekly' option: therefore my suggestion.

Thanks - Have a nice day.
Eric

Assumed: week-end in { Sat, Sun }
Reccurrence = every 3 workday, where workday in { Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri }
:
week 01 : Mon > +3 = Thu > +3 = (week 02) Tue
week 02 : Tue > +3 = Fri > +3 = (week 03) Wed
week 03 : Wed > +3 = (week 04) Mon
week 04 : Mon > +3 = Thu > +3 = (week 05) Tue   <<  back to patern of week 01
week 05 : etc..

I understand how it would work I just can't imagine someone wanting to do that.

Can you tell me the actual reason why _you_ want to do this?

Easy.

1)  I am sharing task responsibility with another 2 persons. My turn to do the task is every 3 workdays, and need to see it in my list only when I have to do it.

2)  I do a refill of some stuff every 3 days, stuff that is not used during the weekend.

I hope this help to understand the usage.

Thx Eric, I just wanted to understand the real use-case.

I'll add it to the recurrence options for 7.1.

Hi Dan,

I did test the new recurrence feature implemented in v7.1DR4 (weekdays), and found following issues.

Assumption: working with database "Introduction", with all defaults from inital configuration.

Situation
: for any task, click on square button labelled '...' to open the "Recurrence Options" popup dialog box and...
Left col. = click on 'Daily'
Right col. = click...
       / either on "Every x weekday(s)"
       \ or "Every weekday"
then:
- the top button "Every x day(s)" remains selected
- any other button of the other 2 is also selected, but inactive (no influence)
- new setting is lost when closing the popup dialog box (i.e. validate using the "OK" button, and reopen using "..." button  >>  lost)

+ "Every x day(s)" : the box to enter the variable number remains greyed even when it is the active selection

So, bugs in my opinion.

Thanks - Eric

Note: in this context, it has not been possible to check the "End after" option

Yes and No.

  • Yes
When selecting "every weekday", it acts as labelled and the setting is recorded (i.e. when you open the recurrence setting again, the radio button is still on your selection = ok).

  • No
When selecting "every x weekday(s)", it acts as labelled but the setting recorded is corrupted (i.e. when you open the recurrence setting again, the radio button is not more on your selection: it did jump to "every x day(s)" instead = not ok).
Thanks - Eric

Thx Eric, I only tested the specific issue and not the broader context :sigh:

FYI - I did test again this new feature pending for release: still working fine in v7.1.A5 :-)
