A new, simple tasklist like

A
    1
    2
    3
    4
B
    1
    2
    3

- Set filter to "B) Incomplete Tasks"
- Click "4" to set as "done"
- Task 4  disappears, task "B" is selected and activated

The following screencast shows what I mean, (but the recording of the screencast changed the behaviour of TDL too):

This is the currently designed behaviour. Selection moves to the 'next' task. Should be the same if you deleted task 4.

And it's not quite as simple as you suggest because what if completing that last subtask causes the parent to be completed too, and its parents all the way to the root. What then?

I've therefore changed this to a suggestion for now.

Maybe I described not exactly what I mean ..

Yes, that’s OK. But I want to point out that the task is not only selected, but also “activated” (like pressing F2). See the last seconds of the screencast.
