Hey, i just recently installed kubuntu 5.10 with a dual boot windows
system happening. It ran perfectly for the first time or two, but then
it went straight into command prompt for the login and everything after
that. I have tried startx, but that said...

"X Auth: Creating new authority file /home/kuzmaster/.serverauth.7121

fatal server error:
Server is all ready active for display 0. If this server is allready
running, remove /tmp/.xo-lock and start again.

Xlib: connection error to ":0.0" refused by server"

and i have tried sudo init "runlevel" and sudo init "runlevel" 2, but
that just tells me the usage of it.

The last time this happend i reconfigured xserver and it worked for one
boot, but then it just went to no GUI for the second boot

if anyonw could help me, it would be appreacieated heaps

try this:

sudo /etc/init.d/kdm stop
sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
sudo /etc/init.d/kdm start

This will stop KDE, then reset /etc/x11/xorg.conf to the failsafe
defaults, then start KDE again. If this doesn't work, just type in the
middle line, then reboot with "sudo reboot". I hope this works for you.

You mean KDE started after you gave it the command to runlevel 2?
runlevel 2 should be a relatively simple CLI, not much more than bash.
Very, very strange.

Yeah, that's pretty common. But if it worked for you, more power to it.

Excellent. Not suspicious at all.
