Will see how things go in the future?
How to communicate other than normal means?
Nanites talking to each other and how?

Subject: Re Lord Kalvan Tech - Paratime
Very true and radio, yes its easy or just phones. Army Phones until of late
are simple T1 wire and a unit that uses your talking to power it.
Also, yes, an academy and I suspect a Emperors Guard or like, recruiting
from the lords of the other parts of the Empire or what?
Kalvan was just a Corporal, but so was Hitler and not much better than
Napoleon but ..
Would this all make for a fun movie/TV show?
Kalvans dad was a minister, but I suspect Kalvan is not happy about
religion, but ..
I do think the priests of Dralm and othere are happy to back Kalvan, how
far?
Would be nice to find out more about their make up and all? Same as the Old
Braham, Krisna, Vishnu, Shiva, and Kali or what? Garuda?
How close to Indo-Aryan and like peoples is the faiths of Earth Kalvan?
He came over c.1960, so how far has things gone since 1960?
The stories called 1634, may offer some ideas.
Not sure about c.1914, I think more like c.1700 Army, with flintlock and
matchlock, but never know..
But first yes, go with the "now" tech and produce Musketeers and like
persons? And armed persons? \
More like an Oxford or like? But will see..
Astronomy for one, but to what response/need? Land navigation or what?
Would be interesting to see what Calvin might have known before Korea and
after Korea and such?
Police OFficer, dad was a minister, Korean War Vet, MP or Infantry or what?
What do we know of Korea c.1950? Kalvan having PTSD?
Monogamy seems to be the common standard but .. Inheritance?
Not everyone is into how we do it, Male to Male, or Male to Female and such.
But it maybe more like Brehon, where all males of age, decendent of the dead
kings grandfather can claim the kingship.
Keeping tings fragmented, sounds familiar? New laws on taxes and
inheritance? As well as more feudal levies that are not based on land but on
a more German methods of money and service?
To bad Kalvan did not bring over King Arthur or like? Grin.

All are excellent points.
I suspect Kalvan would have approached this from two angles.
First, he would have taught organization and
theory. The War College, the College of
Industrial Arts, the scientific
method. Cartography -- the Hos-Hostigos Ordnance
Survey of the Six Kingdoms. Production
tolerances, the base for all
industrialization. Antisepsis and public
health. High King's Scholarships for bright peasant kids.
Then there would be the practical things. Proper
fortification techniques. Once the industrial
base was established, vastly better
artillery. Standardized boats on the Great Lakes
and canals. Railroads? Yeah, but getting over
the mountains around what is here-and-now Altoona
is a bitch and for years was restricted to a
single pass, the Horseshoe Bend. But, certainly,
Hos-Hostigos would have had vastly improved
communications by canal and road and rail. Radio
is quite feasible: any fellow of Kalvan's age
would have made a crystal radio as a rite of
passage -- hell, I am a lot younger than Kalvan,
and I built a crystal radio as a kid, and made
certain that my own son did the same when he was
ten or so. It would be crude and rude but that's
the sort of project you turn over to the College
of Industrial Arts to develop. It wouldn't be
long before KQV and KDKA would be on the air,
hawking Old Frotheringslosh, the Beer So Light The Bubbles Are On the
Bottom.
And Kalvan sure as hell would have brought in baseball, too.
One thing of which we can be certain is that
Kalvan would not stop with his marginally-better
Army. He would have worked up to a 1914-era
military as rapidly as he could. What would a
great-great kingdom he called? Hos-Hos-Hostigos?
