Greetings fellow randos! I am a recent transplant to Yellowknife, having relocated from Ottawa. There, I was a regular participant in the Ottawa chapter of Randonneurs Ontario. I don't want my geography (or the lack of highway options) to keep me from riding brevets next year and wanted to inquire if AB Randonneurs would entertain a trial chapter in NWT. I understand I could register for my own club through ACP, but if AB Randonneurs are opent to this pitch it would be easier for the very small handfull of people here that may be interested. I've done some route scouting, and I can put together a full series of rides. (likely requiring some support).
To give you an idea of the cycling community, there is an annual ride that is independently organized each year, called the YK to HY ride. It's 500 km over three days and usually attracts between 50-60 individual riders (though some form a relay team). I have spoken with a couple of cyclists and there seems to be interest from more than only me.
I'll leave it there for now, please let me know if this idea has wheels! Many thanks for your time.
Patrick
