Hi Dan: In my opinion the 300 is not harder than a 4 or 6. I find the 4 is the toughest ride of the brevet series. Without knowing your cycling background the three primary areas to focus on are : Pace, Nutrition and Hydration. Pace should be measured in terms of effort, not speed or time. Staying in your aerobic zone is key. Weather and terrain can wreak havoc on your speed and time. If you have juice in the bank you can punch things up the back 50 or so. Nutrition becomes a personal thing and you need to experiment with what works for you. If you have specific questions fire away, there is lots of experience in the club
