Hi Stephen
Thanks. I am doing very well. Considering the severity of my injuries (when hit on July 3, 2022), my family and I consider
ourselves very lucky and grateful. When people call my recovery remarkable and a miracle (against most odds) we agree.
Many contributing factors.
(1) A passerby discovered me, phoned the RCMP- EMS, and noted that a guy in his early fifties was in bad shape
(underestimated my age by some 20+years)
(2) Within half an hour I was in UoA-ICU Edmonton..After 2.5 week there, transferred to Glenrose STI Rehab Centre.
No memory of the accident, UoA-ICU and first 2 weeks at Glenrose. There were also physical injuries.
UoA surgeons were unable to give my family any prognosis because things did not look good.
(3) The care I received at UoA and Glenrose was phenomenal. Very intensive - by people who are very dedicated and
committed to providing the best health care. Thank you does not cover it.
(4).Ongoing care since my discharge at the end of August 2022, mainly physiotherapy, physical conditioning
(elliptical machine and stationary bicycle)
(5) discipline. patience and positive attitude (of course developed through randonneuring) and being very fit.
(6) incredible support from my wife, my family, friends, neighbours and community (cycling and speedskating)
I am back to doing most things I used to do before the accident. Like to get back to cycling on the road.
(Tried in the backyard -feels very good 🙂)
Wim
(PS. Long answer to your question).
