I can't do this this coming weekend but would like to go out next week. Is anyone interested in joining me? I'm fairly flexible on a date. Also, the last time Chester and I did this, we concluded that using the 1A on the return to head up to Lake Louise was no longer a good option due to poor road surface conditions and the area was constantly closed due to bears. Staying on HWY 1 and heading up from the village is one option, the second would be getting on the bike path that starts at the Jasper HWY turnoff and coming into the village would be the second. That path in the past has been in rough shape.

Hi all. FYI I rode the Great Divide road from Lake O’Hara to Lake Louise Road a month ago. It’s a bit rough in places but generally good. I was on a recumbent touring bike with 42 mm tires which is not great on gravel.
The bear issue needs to be considered. We carry compressed air horns and pepper spray and the area was open.
It is simpler to avoid this road but it’s a ride worth considering on a gravel bike. I’d avoid it on my road bike.
Cheers,
John

Hi guys.

Love the MM 200 since its inception from the early years of the Rocky Mountain Randonneurs (late 80s). The last time I rode the 1A to Lk L - agree - rough and the heaves/speed bumps were crazy - but ok if slowed down first.

But, if the bigger issue is the wildlife - if open/closed, maybe cannot predict. That may need to direct the change.

While it’s not fun riding the highway into Lk L village, it may be the only way. Also the vehicle line up from the village to parking at the Lk can be long and take away the shoulder.

With the traffic restrictions and booking ahead for parking, maybe those line ups aren’t an issue anymore? The 1A just got one closer to the lake road so not to be amongst all the cars from the village up to the Lk.

I won’t be able to ride this year. I hope you have a great brevet!!

I could potentially be interested and my schedule is fairly open this month.

Do you have any specific dates in mind?
