Mike,
I personally would appreciate a lot if some of us could go and be
present there to promote our club. If there were a few of us I would
definitely be part of the crew at the table.
The talk is very long and need a lot of preparation, not sure if
anyone is up to that.
We would need some material to show there, like maps of the routes,
photos, business cards etc.
Can I ask who is willing to be part of the te\m and then we can come
together and plan the details?
Thanks
Peter

> I got your email address from the Alberta Randonneurs website. I am emailing for a couple of reasons - first, I am interested in joining the Alberta Randonneur Association; I met Charlene Barach a few years ago and her enthusiasm for the sport was quite infectious. I've been working my way up to longer distances ever since I met her. The main reason I'm getting in touch now, though, is to see if you might be interested in attending the MEC Calgary Bikefest in June, which I am helping to set up. It will be held Saturday, June 16 at Eau Claire Plaza, 10 am-4pm and is a celebration of all things bike-related.

When I explained what it was, they just about fell over! "People DO that? Here??!" It's interesting that marathon and ultra-distance running have a such a high profile these days, but the cycling equivalent is still so far under the radar. I think it's something that would appeal greatly to MEC's members, with our emphasis on self-propelled, self-sufficient outdoor activity - if only they knew it existed.

Last year we had a couple of sessions on bicycle touring that were just about mobbed - the interest is very definitely there. I can send a registration form; there is a fee for table space ($25 for non-profit organizations), but we could waive that if you had someone to give a talk.
