I'm planning to participate in this this Saturday, although I may move to Friday or Sunday if the Saturday forecast doesn't improve.  If anyone else is interested, drop a note here, and we can try to coordinate

Hi Stephen. I’m considering Drum 300 also, and a good forecast. Saturday is my only free day so that would be my day. Let’s watch the forecast.

Hi John et al, I'm going to roll on Friday. Both days look great for the weather, but with four mothers in the family, Friday leaves the Mother's Day weekend open for me. My wife and I were reminiscing that my first 300 was the Drumheller 300 back in 1993. I was new to the sport and the club, and Ian Oileth (sp), a seasoned club member, came out to see me off on the solo event. My wife and three young daughters met me at the A&W at the finish.

Hi Steve. Wish I was available. Looks promising for me to ride Saturday. Hopefully with company.
Wow, you must have done plenty of 300’s. PBP? This will be 300 or more number 5 for me. I’m a late bloomer I guess, first 300 at 58. First time for Drum 300 and it looks like a great route.
Cheers,
John

Stephen,
That was likely Ian Olthof. He ride PBP once too. Glad your family was so supportive back then and still are. Enjoy the Mother’s Day w/e with all those moms!

Brings back memories when setting the course and we rode it with terrible spring AB weather! I’ll have to get down someday - maybe ride the first ever brevet of the club - Wayne Galbraith 200 or the Mountain Madness 200. I miss the foothills/mountains. Getting soft with the prairie in Edmonton. But still have the wind - hah!

Have a great brevet!

John, I'm one old Rando rider, 5 PBP's and over 25 other Grand Randonees around the world, plus all 5 Raid events. I lost count of the 300's. I guess if you are lucky enough to get old, you get to do these things.

Many thanks to Stephen joining the fold and being so enthusiastic and supportive for all he does for our club. Definite vet of Randonneurring and all brevet distances. But I’m so impressed with his riding resume of long distance ones and the Audax style too!

Cool! What a depth of experience. How was Drumheller yesterday?
Pretty good today although a stretch of headwind S of Rosebud. Climbing the Drum hill on a recumbent is a bit of a chore.

I enjoyed the changes to the coarse. The new start/finish location and the trip up to Wayne. My ride finish was funny as I couldn't find my car. When I parked at Cross Iron Mills there wasn't a vehicle around. Arriving back the parking lot was packed. Retail is alive and well. It was a tough day, as the wind from my start at 7:00 am to my finish just before 7:30 pm was strong out of the NNW. I pushed against 24-34km headwinds on the North sections, had a quarter tailwind through Drumheller to the Wayne turn, and paid for it all the way back. Traffic was light until the last stretch into Calgary from Strathmore. Friday night etc. I'm working on a new nutrition strategy and there were lots of learnings with that. A good ride.

Well done both of you. The spring winds in AB build such strong character! 🌬️ 💨 🌾
