Alberta's tech sector has long been a sleeper hit in the province's economy. Though it's often overshadowed by the energy sector, it provides a large number of employment opportunities for innovators.

According to a LinkedIn post by Calgary's Zachary Novak — founder of Careers in Technology and Innovation — there are 500 positions open in Alberta's tech sector. Neo Financial and RBC each have 100 slots that need filling, and Amazon, Benevity, Synopsys, and LoKnow all have around 50 each. "This is the tip of an iceberg and I expect the total positions to be at least [three times] this," the post reads.

Jobber, AltaML, Drivewyze, samdesk, and Showbie are among the Edmonton companies included on the list.

The Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (Amii) is also offering 20 full scholarships for its Winter 2022 cohort of the Machine Learning Technician Certification program. Lasting nine weeks — from Feb. 1 until April 1 — it helps participants learn new skills in tech and AI. Registration must be completed by Jan. 18.
