Dear colleagues,
We are happy to announce the next webinar organized by the YHS-Greece with invited speaker Yannis Markonis!
Title: Terrestrial Water Cycle Change: From Local Processes to Global Patterns
Date: Wednesday, March 26th, 2026
Time:
17.00 (Zurich, Berlin, CET)
18.00 (Athens, GMT+2)
Abstract
In this talk, we discuss recent advances in the analysis of terrestrial water cycle dynamics, focusing on the coupled behaviour of precipitation and evaporation and on how we can interpret their changes across scales. We give particular attention to the key research hypotheses of global hydroclimatic change in terms of water availability and water cycle intensity, and we examine how these hypotheses relate to observed regional patterns and trajectories of change. Finally, we explore the implications for the frequency, intensity, and spatial distribution of hydrological extremes, showing how changes in the terrestrial water cycle shape the conditions under which droughts and floods emerge in a warming world.
