Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Hydrological Modeling Analysis at the Eastern Forest Environmental Threat Assessment Center, USDA Forest Service, Raleigh, NC.
This is a three year term position with a salary of $60-70,000 per year plus benefits. The incumbent is expected to be hired through Oak Ridge National Lab’s ORISE Fellow Program. The incumbent will participate in a team-oriented hydrological modeling project that focuses on understanding the impacts of wildland fires and forest fuel treatment on watershed hydrology and water resources at the basin to continental scale. Duties include: 1) combining databases of historic large wildfires and streamflow records to understand the relationship between large fires and streamflow characteristics, and validate process-based models for regional applications, 2) to identify key municipal watersheds that are most vulnerable to wildfires and to quantify potential short and long-term impacts of wildfires on water supply and peakflow rates using a process-based hydrologic model (i.e., MIKE SHE, SWAT). This position requires a Ph.D. degree in hydrologic modeling, water resources, geography or related fields. The applicant should demonstrate knowledge in hydrological data synthesis through modeling and experience with associated software (including ArcGIS, Watershed hydrologic models, SAS, R), and also demonstrated skills in communicating science through peer-reviewed publications and public speaking. If interested, send a letter of interest and vitae summarizing your qualifications to Dr. Ge Sun: Ge...@fs.fed.us or visit www.forestthreats.org. The position is open until filled, and the incumbent is expected to start in October 2014.
