Dear All,

We are pleased to announce that abstract submission is now open for our session at the upcoming European Geosciences Union (EGU) General Assembly 2026, to be held in Vienna, Austria, and online from 3–8 May 2026.

I am delighted to share that I, together with my esteemed co-conveners — Prof. Basudev Biswal, Prof. Rohini Kumar, and Dr. Ishita Afreen Ahmed, Ph.D. — will be convening Session HS9.3: Advances in Measurement and Modelling in Soil and Water Management.

Session Overview

Soil erosion and land degradation remain pressing geo-environmental challenges, critically influencing agricultural productivity, water security, and ecosystem health. With climate change intensifying rainfall variability and land-use dynamics, advancing innovative and sustainable soil and water management strategies has become more vital than ever.

This session aims to bring together researchers, practitioners, and policymakers contributing to the field through novel measurement, modeling, and management approaches, including but not limited to:

  • Field monitoring and modeling of soil erosion and sediment transport

  • Remote sensing and geospatial technologies (e.g., Landsat, Sentinel, MODIS)

  • Process-based and empirical modeling (e.g., RUSLE, SWAT, InVEST)

  • Cloud and high-performance computing (e.g., Google Earth Engine, HPC)

  • Artificial intelligence and machine learning in soil and water systems

  • Policy-driven interventions and case studies for sustainable management

Why Contribute to Session HS9.3?

Interdisciplinary Exchange: Engage with leading experts across soil, water, and environmental systems.
🚀 Innovation Showcase: Present your latest advancements in modeling, remote sensing, or AI/ML applications.
🌎 Practical Impact: Share research that informs sustainable policies and management practices.
🎯 Global Platform: Participate in one of the world’s largest and most influential gatherings of geoscientists.

📝 Abstract submission deadline: 15 January 2026 (13:00 CET)
📅 Event dates: 3–8 May 2026 (Vienna & Online)

We warmly invite you to submit your abstract and contribute to meaningful discussions on advancing the science and practice of sustainable soil and water management — through collaboration, innovation, and shared learning.

With best regards,
Ravi Raj
