The graduate assistantship is fully funded and covers tuition, a stipend (~$26,000/year), and health insurance. The position will be extended every year based on the student’s record. The position is to start either in the Spring or Fall of 2026.
Qualifications
Dr. Rahmani is seeking highly motivated and qualified PhD students to join my group in the field of AI and physics-informed AI in water resources. His group will be working on the integration of artificial intelligence, physics-informed AI, and large-scale hydrological and water quality modeling (on national, and global scales) to advance research in water resources, civil engineering, and geosciences.
Preferred qualifications include:
· A Master’s degree in a relevant discipline (preferred but not required).
· Strong numerical and coding skills (e.g., Python, MATLAB, or similar).
· Creative and independent mindset with enthusiasm for tackling open scientific problems.
· Experience in geospatial coding and analysis (e.g., GIS, remote sensing, satellite data) is a plus.
· Background or interest in streamflow and water quality modeling is beneficial.
Students from a range of disciplines are encouraged to apply, including but not limited to:
· Civil, Water, and Environmental Engineering
· Computer Science / Data Science
· Geosciences / Earth System Science
· Related fields with strong ties to modeling, computation, or hydrology
Necessary qualifications include the following:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, a basic understanding of hydrology and hydrologic processes, environmental science, or similar natural resource related disciplines, a basic ability to code (e.g., Python, MATLAB, R) and utilize software such as GIS, basic understanding of calculus, physics, numerical methods, and statistics, and the ability to effectively collaborate as well as work independently.
Students should anticipate starting the position in either Spring or Fall of 2026. International applicants should consider logistical requirements of obtaining a visa when applying. International applicants should have an English proficiency score to apply (TOEFL > 80, or Duolingo > 105, or IELTS > 6.5). GRE Q+V>295 is required.
