🚨 Postdoctoral Research Associate Position – Ecohydrology & eDNA
📍 Texas State University | Department of Biology | San Marcos, Texas
I am recruiting a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to join a new interdisciplinary research program focused on freshwater biodiversity, ecohydrology, and environmental DNA (eDNA)-based ecological monitoring.
The project will investigate how hydrological variability influences freshwater macroinvertebrate community structure and biodiversity dynamics in intermittent streams of Central Texas. The position integrates field-based aquatic ecology, eDNA metabarcoding, molecular ecology, and ecohydrological analysis.
🔬 Desired Expertise
• Environmental DNA (eDNA) and metabarcoding
• Molecular ecology and biodiversity monitoring
• Freshwater ecology and aquatic field sampling
• Bioinformatics workflows for metabarcoding data
• Community ecology and ecological statistics
• Aquatic macroinvertebrates and/or stream ecosystems
📌 Position Responsibilities
• Designing and conducting aquatic field sampling
• Developing and implementing eDNA workflows
• Managing and analyzing metabarcoding datasets
• Assisting with graduate student mentoring and training
• Leading manuscript preparation and collaborative research activities
🎓 Qualifications
Required:
• PhD in Ecology, Biology, Environmental Science, Molecular Ecology, Bioinformatics, or a related field by the start date
Preferred:
• Experience with aquatic ecosystems and/or freshwater fieldwork
• Experience with eDNA laboratory and bioinformatics workflows
• Strong publication and communication skills
• Ability to work independently in an interdisciplinary research environment
⏳ Appointment
The position is available for two years, with potential renewal depending on performance and funding availability.
📧 To Apply
Please send:
• Curriculum vitae
• Cover letter describing research experience, interests, and career goals
