We encourage highly motivated students to apply for admission to the following PhD position founded in Civil, Environmental and Mechanical Engineering - Curriculum A: Civil and Environmental Engineering scholarships A3. (University of Trento Italy).

The position, founded by the PNRR project iNEST (Interconnected Nord-Est Innovation Ecosystem), focus on: Water management and risk mitigation strategies to reduce the pollution associated to stormwater urban runoff by preserving the natural capital (P.I. Alessandra Marzadri, Giuseppe Formetta, University of Trento Italy). The proposed research will focus on the development and application of innovative models and tools at different spatial (i.e. neighborhood areas, streets and urban landscape) and temporal (e.g. storm event, seasonal and annual) scales to evaluate the benefits of integrating in the built heritage some Nature Based Solutions (e.g. existing or planned wetlands, green roofs, bioretention systems, etc.) to: i) reduce the losses of ecosystem services and biodiversity, ii) predict the presence and fate of CECs in the fluvial receptors and iii) mitigate the effects of climate change in terms of both water quantity and quality management.

The ideal candidate will have a background in Civil or Environmental Engineering or related fields. Candidates should also possess strong computer, scientific, and analytical expertise, have excellent communication (oral and written) skills, have the ability to work independently and as part of a team, self-motivation, adaptability, and a positive attitude.

Deadline for application: September 4 at 4 pm (Central Europe Time, GMT +2)

In the framework of the “Water Risks” curriculum of the National PhD School "Defence against natural hazards and ecological transition of the built environment", we are looking for motivated PhD candidates to work on the topic “Resilience of critical water drainage infrastructures against urban flood hazard”.
The successful candidate will investigate and develop integrated hydrologic and hydraulic methods to quantify the residual flood hazard affecting the urban areas impacted by intense rainstorms, heading to the consequent adaptation of the Civil Protection plans. A plus for the successful candidature is a strong background in Hydrology and in computational hydraulics. The detailed research program is attached and is also available here: https://tinyurl.com/47w5rxn9
Deadline: September 16
