Dear colleagues,

The International Association for Urban Climate (IAUC) and the American Meteorological Society (AMS) warmly invite you to the joint 12th International Conference on Urban Climate (ICUC12, see https://www.icuc12.eu/) to be held in Rotterdam, The Netherlands from 7 to 11 July 2025.

Researchers, practitioners, and policymakers from around the globe will gather to explore the dynamic interplay between urban environments and climate challenges. This scientific conference offers a unique platform to share knowledge, innovative solutions, and foster collaborations aimed at addressing the pressing issues faced by cities worldwide, advancing the forefronts in the field of urban climate in its broadest definition.

As urban areas continue to grow and evolve, the protection, preservation and sustainable transformation of our cultural and architectural heritage becomes increasingly vital–especially in the context of climate change. This year’s special theme, "Heritage as an Urban Climate Challenge," invites participants to examine how climatic factors impact urban environments and how these sites, in turn, influence urban climate resilience. We define heritage in the broadest sense; not only historical and/or listed buildings and sites, but the totally of the existing built environment we inherit as a society. Also regular conference abstracts are welcome.

The call for abstracts is now open till 31 January 2025 13:00 CET. We welcome abstracts addressing topics under our five main themes and underlying sessions (see https://meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/ICUC12/sessionprogramme):

  1. Urban Climate Processes & Methods,
  2. Hazards & Health,
  3. Urban Morphology, Planning, & Design,
  4. Urban Energy Transition,
  5. Societal Engagement.

Contributions are also welcome for Special Sessions that explore emerging topics and innovative approaches in urban climate research and practice (see https://meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/ICUC12/sessionprogramme).

Best regards, on behalf of the conference organizing team

Marjolein van Esch (TU Delft) and Gert-Jan Steeneveld (Wageningen University)
