Dear Hydrology Community,

Please considering submitting an abstract to the following session on plastic pollution led by Dr. Nazife Oruc Baci, myself, and Dr. Felix Santiago-Collazo:

Session Title:

From Streets to Streams and Seas: Tracking, Modeling, and Managing Plastic and Litter Pathways in Communities

Proposal Description:

Plastic and litter pollution is a cross-system challenge linking urban environments, waterways, and coastal systems. However, the processes governing the mobilization, transport, and retention of debris across these connected pathways—especially during rainfall and flooding events—remain poorly understood. This session invites contributions that investigate the pathways of plastic and litter from streets to streams and seas, with a focus on community-scale dynamics. Topics may include field observations, laboratory experiments, numerical modeling, and integrated frameworks capturing overland, drainage, riverine, and coastal transport. Studies addressing stormwater infrastructure, object characteristics, hydrodynamic forcing (e.g., rainfall, tides, and compound flooding), and pathway connectivity are encouraged. We welcome interdisciplinary contributions spanning hydrology, coastal science, environmental engineering, and sustainability, including work that links physical processes with monitoring, mitigation, and policy strategies.
