Dear Members,

Water has always been both a lifeline and a flashpoint. From ancient conflicts over rivers to modern geopolitical tensions surrounding dams, aquifers, and cross-border water treaties, the intersection of water and war reveals humanity’s most fundamental struggles for survival, power, and justice. In this special issue of the Conservation Geek E‑Zine, we invite researchers, practitioners, journalists, and storytellers to explore the multifaceted dynamics where hydrology meets history, ecology confronts politics, and peacebuilding engages with resource scarcity.

  • Historical and contemporary case studies of water conflicts

  • Transboundary river management and geopolitical tensions

  • Water as a weapon or casualty in warfare

  • Humanitarian crises, displacement, and access to safe water

  • Climate change, drought, and emerging security threats

  • Policy, ethics, and diplomacy in water-related peacebuilding

  • Narratives, art, and creative nonfiction around water conflicts
