Dear colleagues,

The Institute of Marine Sciences [https://ims.ucsc.edu/] at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a post-doctoral scientist with a focus on ecosystem modeling of coastal wetland hydrology and geochemistry, under the joint direction of Dr. Adina Paytan at UCSC and Dr. Yu Zhang at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), and co-mentored by Drs. David Moulton, Qinjun Kang, and Marie Kroeger at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). The post-doctoral scientist will use established models, such as the Advanced Terrestrial Simulator (ATS) (https://github.com/amanzi/ats), and include wetland process representations and parameterizations. After model benchmarking, the candidate will use the models to investigate how different coastal wetland restoration options and climate change will affect wetland hydrology, nutrient transport, reactive transport, and carbon balance. Please see the details below and in the job ad attached here.

Review of applications will start immediately. Full consideration will be given to applications completed by June 1, 2022. Applications received after this date will be considered only if the position has not been filled.

The position will be based at the Los Alamos National Laboratory [https://www.lanl.gov/] in Los Alamos, NM, and will work closely with other LANL and UCSC researchers.

Applicants with experience or expertise in the following areas are strongly encouraged to apply:
· Experience in mechanistic modeling of coastal ecosystem processes (encompassing hydrology, geochemistry, water and carbon cycling, and vegetation dynamics)
· Experience with processes related to hydrological cycle, nutrient transport, or reactive transport in wetlands
· Strong mathematical and numerical modeling skills
· Strong written and oral communication skills with significant motivation to publish in peer reviewed literature Strong interest in team-based interdisciplinary science, with the willingness and ability to work independently when required.

MAXIMUM DURATION OF SERVICE IN A POSTDOCTORAL TITLE Postdoctoral Scholar appointments are full-time; the initial appointment will be for one year, with the possibility of reappointment for up to two years. Reappointment will be contingent upon a positive performance review and availability of funding. The total duration of an individual’s postdoctoral service may not exceed five years, including postdoctoral service at any institution. Under limited circumstances, an exception to this limit may be considered, not to exceed a sixth year.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
All documents and materials must be submitted as PDFs and should be emailed to Dr. Adina Paytan (apa...@ucsc.edu), Dr. Yu Zhang (yuz...@lanl.gov), Dr. David Moulton (mou...@lanl.gov), Dr. Qinjun Kang (qk...@lanl.gov), and Dr. Maria Kroeger (mkro...@lanl.gov).

Documents/Materials
- Letter of application that briefly summarizes your qualifications and interest in the position (required)
- Curriculum Vitae - Your most recently updated C.V., which must include past employment, education, research experiences, skills, and a list of publications (required)
- List of three professional references, which includes names and contact information (required)

Please feel free to contact me (yuz...@lanl.gov) if you have any questions.

Best wishes,
Yu Zhang, Ph.D.
