Dear colleagues,

We kindly invite you to submit an abstract to our session:

HS57 - Impacts of Human Systems and Climate Extremes on Water Quality and Quantity

at the 23rd Annual Meeting of the Asia Oceania Geosciences Society (AOGS 2026).

📍 Venue: Fukuoka International Congress Center & Marine Messe Fukuoka B Hall, Fukuoka, Japan
📅 Conference dates: 02-07 August 2026

If your work relates to hydrology, water quality, climate extremes, or human-water interactions, we would be delighted to have your contribution!

🌏 Why this session?
Human activities, including reservoirs and dams, land-use change, urbanization, agriculture, water abstraction, and infrastructure development, have significantly reshaped the water cycle and water quality. At the same time, climate change is altering the frequency, magnitude, and timing of hydroclimatic extremes, including floods, droughts, heatwaves, and compound events.

This session aims to bring together researchers working on:

  • Impacts of human systems on water quantity and water quality
  • Effects of climate extremes and compound events on hydrology and water resources
  • Coupled human-water and socio-hydrological system modelling
  • Hydrological, hydroclimatic, and water quality forecasting
  • Quantifying and attributing human and climate impacts
  • Data-driven, hybrid, and process-based modeling approaches
  • Risk assessment, impact-based forecasting, and decision support
  • Adaptation and mitigation strategies for water systems under change

We particularly encourage early-career researchers and contributions from diverse disciplines and regions.

📅 Abstract submission deadline: January 23rd, 2026
