To mark UN World Water Day, the University of Birmingham is hosting the Virtual 2021 World Water Day Symposium. World Water Day 2021 is about what water means to people, its true value and how we can better protect this vital resource. The theme is #Water2me https://www.worldwaterday.org/ The event is held under the auspices of the UNESCO Chair io Water Sciences and UNESCO UNITWIN network on Ecohydrological Interfaces at Birmingham and the University's Institute of Global Innovation.

 

Join the experts leading water sciences research across the world, and those leading projects to help secure water for all. This annual symposium brings together a broad range of water professionals from a wide range of science, policy, regulatory, industry, intergovernmental backgrounds and the wider public to discuss the critical water challenges we face.

 

We are hosting a series of presentation (20 mins) and follow-up by a panel discussion (2 hour slot overall). Our speakers and panellists are listed below.

 

Speakers:

  • Professor Peter Gleick, President Emeritus and Co-founder of the Pacific Institute
  • Professor Nandita Basu, Associate Professor, Water Sustainability and Ecohydrology, University of Waterloo
  • Dr Fraser Sugden, Senior Lecturer in Human Geography (agrarian geography, water  and environmental change), University of Birmingham
