Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce that we are hosting a session at the AGU26 Annual Meeting which will be held at , San Francisco, USA  and . I am honoured to serve as one of the conveners for Session H124: Sensitivity and Uncertainty Characterization in Multi-Scale Modeling of Drought-to-Flood Transitions: Integrating 1D-2D Hydrodynamic, AI/ML, and Index-Based Modeling Frameworks.

Event Details:

AGU26 Annual Meeting, 7-11 December 2026

San Francisco, California, USA

We invite you to submit abstracts for oral and poster presentations.

Session Scope:

Rapid transitions between drought and flood events are increasingly recognized as critical expressions of hydroclimatic variability in this present climate change scenario . Such compound and cascading extremes present major challenges for prediction, risk assessment, and water resource management across spatial and temporal scales. Therefore, understanding the mechanisms governing drought-to-flood and flood-to-drought propagation is essential for improving resilience and forecasting capabilities.

In this session we invite contributions that investigate the characteristics, drivers, and predictability of such transitions through sensitivity and uncertainty analyses. We welcome studies employing a range of modeling approaches, including physics-based, data-driven, and hybrid (AI/ML or surrogate) frameworks. Contributions may focus on multi-scale dynamics spanning global, regional, basin, and hyperlocal levels, using coupled models, 1D–2D hydrodynamic simulations, and statistical or index-based methods such as SPI, SPEI, SSMI, SRI, and SSI.

We particularly encourage the use of large-scale and operational datasets (e.g., GLOFAS, GFS, etc.), as well as sensor-based and in situ observations to enhance process understanding and model evaluation. Topics of interest include uncertainty quantification, sensitivity of model parameters and inputs, process-based insights into hydroclimatic transitions, and integration of observational and modeling approaches.

Mark your calendar for the abstract submission deadline on 5 August 2026!

If your research aligns with the above scope, we warmly encourage you to submit an abstract for this session and join us at AGU26.

The Conveners -

Prof. Subhankar Karmakar (Professor, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay)

Dr. Ajay Gupta (Post Doctoral Fellow, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay)

Dr. Jagriti Jain (Post Doctoral Fellow, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay)
