The Coastlines and People (CoPe) Virginia Climate Equity Project team is looking for two REU students to conduct two research projects this summer, with the descriptions and application links for each of the projects listed below. Students will work directly with two graduate students in Larry Band's Lab in either the Environmental Science or Civil & Environmental Engineering Department, depending on the project. The deadline to apply is April 3rd.
Project #1: Assessing Flood-Resilient Routes on the Eastern Shore of Virginia
See link for a more detailed project description, eligibility, and application materials.
Project #2: Quantifying Socioeconomic Inequities Linked to Shallow Groundwater Issues and Inland Flooding
See link for a more detailed project description, eligibility, and application materials.
While the two positions involve different research topics, students are encouraged to apply to both! The positions will both run for 8-10 weeks from mid-June through mid-August in Charlottesville, VA, with potential for travel to Virginia's Eastern Shore. Exact start and end dates are flexible. Students will receive a total stipend of $6,000 paid in bi-weekly increments. While housing in Charlottesville is not provided, travel to and from the Eastern Shore will be covered by the program.
Best,
