Graduate Research Assistant Position at Clemson University
Position Overview: In collaboration with Savannah River National Lab (SRNL, DOE), we are seeking a highly motivated MS student (must be a U.S. citizen) to join an interdisciplinary research project focused on modern deep learning applications for water quantity and quality modeling across the Savannah River Basin. The student will gain hands-on experience in environmental data science, informatics, and AI, contributing to predictive models that support risk assessment and emergency decision-making at SRNL. Depending on the candidate’s background, he/she may be admitted to Clemson University’s Agricultural Systems Management graduate program or the Computer Science graduate program.
The selected candidate will conduct research at Clemson University and SRNL and will have a potential opportunity for SRNL employment, gaining valuable exposure to national laboratory research and operations.
Responsibilities
• Develop and implement physics-informed deep learning architectures for water quantity and quality modeling, including uncertainty assessment.
• Collect, preprocess, and analyze hydrologic and water quality data from SRNL, USGS, and other IoT-enabled sources.
• Benchmark physics-informed deep learning models against existing SRNL hydrologic models.
• Participate in weekly research meetings, present findings at conferences, and co-author manuscripts.
• Collaborate with Clemson University and SRNL researchers on data-driven water resources projects.
