We would like to remind that the deadline for on-site application is June 3, 2023 while the deadline for online application is June 21, 2023

The interested researchers, in particular PhD students and post-docs, are presently invited to submit the application as soon as possible.

Upon request a limited number of on-site participants can be accommodated at CISM Guest House at the price of 35 Euro per person/night.

Information are available in the flyer of the course downloadable here and at the official CISM course webpage https://www.cism.it/en/activities/courses/C2307/

The 5-days course will be held by:

  • Pascale Aussillous - Université Aix Marseille, France

  • Sivaramakrishnan Balachandar - University of Florida, Gainesville, USA

  • Julien Chauchat - LEGI, Domaine Universitaire, Grenoble, France

  • Claudio di Prisco - Polytechnic of Milan, Italy

  • Elisabeth Guazzelli - MSC-CNRS, Université Paris Cité, France

  • Laurent Lacaze - IMFT-CNRS, Université de Toulouse, France

  • Marco Mazzuoli - University of Genova, Genova, Italy

  • Dalila Vescovi - Polytechnic of Milan, Italy

Topic

The course is an exploration of the recent theoretical, experimental and numerical advancements in the modelling of non-Brownian granular suspensions which characterise geophysical flows such as debris flows, hyper-concentrated flows, underwater turbidity currents, the sediment transport in rivers and ocean shores. The quest is mainly motivated by the growing scientific and engineering interest in geophysical flows as a consequence of the climate change and the severe impact of hydro-geological catastrophic events on socio-economic activities. The course will mostly focus on the physical mechanisms involved in granular transport and emerging from the particle scale. Geophysical applications will be discussed using idealized configurations sharing the main physical and dynamical processes encountered in actual flows.

Who can apply

Undergraduate and PhD student, Post-doc, Researcher and anybody interested in recent results of the mechanics of granular suspensions is warmly invited to apply for the course. Moreover, applicants will have the possibility to show briefly their results in the context of a short Workshop included in the course and extend their research network.

Do not hesitate to contact us and ask any question.

We look forward to seeing you in Udine.

With our best regards,
