Prepare for emergencies in case of a disaster Video: Preparing for disasters Scams associated with donating after a disaster Unfortunately, scammers solicit donations to fake charities and can pose as employees of legitimate charities or federal agencies to take advantage of disaster survivors and those trying to help. Find out how to prevent being a victim Where to find disaster relief help on IRS.gov Disaster relief resources on IRS.gov: Topic no.107, Tax relief in disaster situations: Explains how a disaster is declared and provides resources for taxpayers affected by a disaster.  Tax relief in disaster situations: Provides information on recent and previously declared disasters throughout the nation and resources.  Disaster assistance and emergency relief for individuals and businesses: Special disaster relief tax law provisions help individuals and businesses through financial crisis.  Disaster relief resources for charities and contributors: Contains resources to help those involved in providing disaster relief through charities. IRS Disaster Assistance - Federally Declared Disaster Area: A helpful handout with information on eligibility to receive relief and helpful resources.
