Dear all,

Our Aborn Institute as a mathleague.org member, our students are able to participate following contests for qualifying tests and the state championship.
We will receive an invitation to the state championship in late April if any of our students qualify for the state championship.  Any student who scores at least 50% or who reaches the 80th percentile (as described on mathleague.org website) on any event on this round will qualify to participate in all events at the state meet.

4-School-Round Math League Contests/Events on April 9 and 16 at Aborn School's EVHS branch, P-6, at 6:00PM.

If you are interested in the 4-School Round Math Contests in April, please send the email to Aborn...@gmail.com and register it by April 6 , fee $20 pay to AI.

The following events/ tests/contests are offered at the elementary school contests mathleague.org:
  • Number Sense, on April 9, W - This 10-minute test consists of 80 problems that must be solved mentally. More information about Number Sense (including the scoring procedure and how answers must be presented) can be found here.
  • Sprint Round, on April 9, W - This is a 40-minute multiple choice test consisting of thirty questions. Students may not use calculators on this test. 4 points are awarded for each correct answer and 1 point is subtracted for each incorrect answer, with no penalty for skipped questions.
  • Target Round, on April 16, W - Four pairs of problems are administered, and students have 6 minutes to complete each pair. Answers must be fully simplified and, where appropriate, given in the format asked for in the question. Although measurement units are not required unless specified, any units written by the student as part of the answer must be correct for the problem to receive credit. Students may use any calculator allowed for use on the SAT. 10 points are awarded for each correct answer, with no penalty for skipped or incorrect answers.
  • Team Round, on April 16, W - One to four team members work together for 20 minutes to answer ten questions.
Scoring:

For purposes of awards, an individual's overall score is obtained by adding the student's target and sprint round scores to 1/4 of the number sense score, with negative number sense scores treated as zeros. A maximum individual total would be 300 points (80 for target, 120 for sprint, 100 for 1/4 of number sense). Ties are broken by comparing students' target scores (weighted by item analysis), then by comparing sprint scores.

For purposes of awards, a team's overall score (the "sweepstakes" score) is obtained by adding the individual scores of the team members, dividing by 4, and adding the team's score on the team test. A maximum team total would be 400 points (300 points if the team had four members with perfect individual scores, 100 for the team test). Ties are broken by comparing team test scores (weighted by item analysis).
