1. Native Friendship Centre of Montreal Funding Cut!! Day of Action -
April 5. Letter writing campaign details below.
Hi community members,
If you have not heard already, the funding for the Native Friendship
Centre of Montreal and the Inter-tribal Youth Central have been
revoked.
Here is a link to a story done by APTN:
http://aptn.ca/pages/news/2012/03/23/native-friendship-centre-of-montreal-could-close-its-doors/
There will be a Day of Action Planning and Mobilization on April 5
2012 from 6-9PM here at the NFCM as decided at the Special Assembly on
Mar. 21.
A petition advocating the reinstatement of AFCP and CCAY funding is
also circulating. Copies can be obtained here at the NFCM.
Alternatively I can email it to you. (Contact Allan Vicaire or
ahig....@gmail.com if you'd like a copy of the petition!)
I encourage each of you to write a letter of support to advocate for
the reinstatement of Aboriginal Friendship Centre Program (AFCP) core
funding for 2011-2012 and beyond as well as for the Inter-Tribal Youth
Centre under Aboriginal Peoples' Program: Cultural Connections for
Aboriginal Youth (CCAY).

2. KANATA Journal Launch - April 11
Hello friends of KANATA,
I am emailing you all as either editors, contributors or continuous
supporters of KANATA and our journal. We are in the midst of
publishing the journal now and are very excited for this the diversity
and quality of content in this year's fifth volume.
The tentative date of our journal launch is the evening of April 11th
and it will be taking place in downtown Montreal. The location will be
confirmed soon. In the meantime, I wanted to let you all know of the
date to encourage you to mark it in your calendars so that you can
come! Our journal launch serves to distribute and celebrate the
publication but also to showcase other forms of knowledge
transmission that could not be included in the pages of the academic
journal. This includes storytelling, poetry readings, exhibiting
artwork, musical performances and more. If you are any one you know
would be interested in performing at our launch or exhibiting artwork,
please contact me and I would be happy to talk to you more about the
event. If your artwork is in the journal or has been in the past, you
are especially encouraged to bring it to exhibit.
To all journal contributors: If you do not live in the Montreal region
and cannot attend the Journal Launch, please email me your mailing
address so you can obtain a copy of the journal.
If you have any questions or comments regarding the journal launch,
please don't hesitate to email me. Also, feel free to forward this
email to any individuals who may be interested in attending our event
or performing at it.
Cheers,
Jocelyn Dockerty

3. Third Annual Pre-departure training in Cultural Competency ***May
8th, from 5 to 8.30pm*** Registration now open!
For the past 2 years, the Aboriginal Health Interest Group has
organized an evening-long workshop for students interested in learning
more about Aboriginal culture and how it impacts our work with
indigenous patients. Originally designed for students going to
Aboriginal communities for pre-clinical or clinical rotations, we have
found the teaching to be useful for any student working in a health
profession, even right here in Montreal.
Medical students from every University, nursing students, other health
care students, general public, everyone is welcome.
The training will take place at Thomson House, McGill University, on
May 8th, from 5 to 8.30pm. Dinner will be served.
We are asking for a 10$ contribution. You will receive 5$ back on the
day of the event.
