First of all, "cut code" is slang for "writing code" in the same way that some people refer to "cutting a check" (or "cheque" for the Brits). It is often considered a derisive term for a complex task, such as with this top Google search result. Basically it reduces the work of a software engineer to being comparable to cutting a vegetable. A chef might be similarly insulted if they were told their job was food slicing, or for that matter telling a Certified Public Accountant that their job is cutting checks.

I'll also add that this ad is supposedly by a HR recruiting professional who should know better, and yet referred to technology as "boys toys". Maybe the author didn't intend sexist sentiment, but a professional should know better than to indicate gender for a job that doesn't specifically require it - and if it does require/prefer it on part of the company, that casts the employer in a very bad light indeed.

They intended to say - I HOPE - that the job involves actually writing new code and developing solutions, working with cool cutting edge technologies (I know it says it's heavily a Java position and most of the tech is old Java enterprise stuff: can't blame a salesman for trying to sizzle things up a bit, I suppose, though they really probably shouldn't in this case - if you know Java you know what it's reputation is).

I have a different background (coming from audio/video production and broadcasting, originally), and to me "Cut code" sounds like they're trying to borrow a phrase from the music recording industry, "Cut a track," which was jargon/slang for a recording session. I took it to mean that the position actually writes code. The fact that readers' backgrounds changes the impression of the post so dramatically goes to show how important it is to eliminate slang and euphemisms in written communication.

However, the jocular and sexist nature of the rest of the post makes this seem like it came from a bunch of immature frat boys (Male college fraternity members, for our international members), and @HLGEM pretty much covered that in her comment.

Writing lines-of-code is seen (by some) as a drudge job for junior programmers. According to SOME people, "seniors" don't do that: they do release management, product management, customer management, project management... anything except write code.

If (or because) the job requires coding as perhaps its main or sine qua non activity, I suppose they feel they must say so explicitly in the job offer: to try to weed out people who aren't willing and/or able to.

Saying "big surprise" is meant to be 'ironic' or something. They have to say "writing code" (because it's the main requirement). They're embarrassed to say it, or trying to say it as if it's cool. So they're adding that statement as a kind of "inside joke" (i.e. "you and me, we know about coding: unlike MANY, to whom the need for CODING may come as a BIG SURPRISE").

My guess as a developer is that they mean they want you to refactor code. This means that you'll be rewriting existing code. The code they have probably has a lot of technical debt (ie sloppily written, not well thought-out or no longer suitable for business needs) and they want you to clean it up. Not a fun job but pretty common in all honesty.

This desire to be fast, rather than to take my time and craft a good solution, can be caused by different factors. How much do I care about this problem? How much energy do I have? Is somebody waiting on it? How likely is it that this hacking is going to come back and bite me? Am I going to need to look at this again in the future?

So which is right? How should we cut code? For me there is no best way. But what is important is to think about what we are giving up when we write code in a certain way, or follow a certain process. And also what we gain.

My Marshall Code 50 has been working very well until recently while im playing the speaker will just cut off out of nowhere. I am trying to see if anyone would know how to help with this problem. Thanks.

I've bought a Marshall CODE 50 here in Brazil and unfortunately, my speaker is also cutting off while I'm playing. How the Marshall sells a product with a SERIOUS PROBLEM like this? It is unacceptable to have an amplifier with Bluetooth technology that simply turns off the speaker. I sent e-mail to servi...@marshall.com and cont...@marshall.com and I hope the problem should be resolved, as this looks like a manufacturing problem. This is my first Marhsall amplifier and it has made me very frustrated.

Yes, this stems from starting the cnc hobby back before sophisticated software was available and affordable. I actually bought a book to learn how to write Gcode because hobbiest Cam was very primative. My first project was a sleigh xmas tree ornament that I wrote all the code for.

Per the Village Code Chapter 105, Section 105-2: Growth of weeds, grass or other rank vegetation to a height greater than five (5) inches or any accumulation of dead grass, weeds or brush is prohibited.

Failure to comply with this code will result in the Village undertaking the cutting and/or clean up, and presenting you as the owner with a bill for services to cut said grass, brush, and weeds/clean up.

In general, after changing some settings in the PrusaSlicer as recommended here in the forum and doing some improvements with the PTFE tubes (tubes were squeezed a bit and filament had troubles running through it) the MMU2 works much more reliable. So my hope is, that I don't need any cutting modifications, even if I would have liked to see the MMU cutting some filament ?

I would recommend to play with the settings and get the filament tip right. Cutting the filament is not really a permanent solution. Even with perfect working cuts, the blade will get dull pretty fast.

that the blade will only cut when moving to the left is exactly why they do the movements like they do, if you print 5 color and start with filament 1 it will go up to filament 5 and then all the way back to number one cutting of all the stringing thats sticking out.

if you had filament in the way while moving right there is something wrong your your unloading process as the filament should retract so much that nothing is sticking out unless there is some stringing at the tip of the filament.

I don't know how it got to this point but my son told me I needed to use a code to log back in. The code is completely cut off and there is no way to see it. Because of this problem I cannot use the Oculus 2 anymore because I can't get passed this screen. See picture attached.

These errors on your picture are coming from the kernel and they indicate the kernel has not been able to read a data block (sector), and the attempts to reallocate it have failed (this is a standard feature of HDD drives):

If you really care about data, send the HDD to any company doing data restoration and ask them to image it. You could try to image it yourself (by using ddrescue) but it's not safe and may lead to data loss.

In short, it means the machine's hard disk (or storage) is damaged, perhaps physically. The best thing would be to contact the maintenance service of the cutting machine, or anyone that is responsible for such machine.

which forces a repair of the disk, while printing a verbose output. We don't know what your duties are so you'll have to see whether you want to try that, or leave the responsibility to someone above your pay grade.

Hi Michael - I am not aware of any way to start the job on a specific line. You can, however, delete all the gcode before your line, upload it, and you get want you want. Make sure you keep the setup codes though - like setting absolute/relative (G90/91), imperial/metric (g20/21), etc or the gcode will not work properly.

The Z3.000 above is a clearance point above your carve, if this is not high enough, change it to an appropriate number.
The X0.000 and Y10.000 should be changed to the X and Y positions that you noted where the program will resume.
After the M0 add a feedrate move to the proper Z level and feedrate (G1 Z-??? F???) that you noted.
If the next line(the line where you are resuming to) is missing the active feed mode (G1,G2 or G3) that you noted, add it to the beginning of the line.
Now you should be able to run this copy of the program to resume at this point.

Thank you very much I have been looking for this exact info and you explained it perfectly. Worked on my first try.
There should be a locked thread somewhere with all this general good info where it could be found easily.

Thanks so much friend. I am expecting my 1F in late June, have been working with Carveco Maker free 3 months to see if this is the one I will use, glad to see someone else using it here. I pretty sure I will need to pause and restart on long carves.
