Abkhazia Once Again Rated Partly Free in Freedom House's Annual Report

Human rights watchdog Freedom House has released its annual report on political rights and civil liberties worldwide on March 8, revealing that media freedom came under pressure in at least 157 countries and territories during 2022. The report showed that the number of countries scoring zero for freedom of expression increased from 14 to 33. The report rated Abkhazia as Partly Free, consistent with its rating in the previous year's report. However, Abkhazia's rating decreased by one point, from 40 to 39, indicating a decline in political rights and civil liberties in the country.

Asida Shakryl Urges President to Establish Commission on Energy Once Again

The Commissioner for Human Rights has twice written letters to President Bzhania, urging the establishment of a Commission on Energy to resolve the energy crisis in the republic and safeguard the rights of its residents. The letters were subsequently forwarded to the Ministry of Economy by the President's Administration, and a response was received from Deputy Prime Minister Kristina Ozgan.

​​​​​​​Ecologists Warn of Ongoing Oil Pollution in the Seas of Tuapse and Sochi

Ecologists have commented on the recent reports of oil pollution in the sea in Tuapse and Sochi, which have caused concern among local residents. On March 1st, wild birds covered in oil products were found on the beaches of Tuapse and Sochi. Ecologist Evgeny Vitishko has assumed that the pollution occurred in the Tuapse district.

Anthology of Adyghe Symphonic Music: 1922-2022" Project Preserves National Academic Music Heritage

​​​​​​​The International Youth Music Art Center in the Republic of Adyghea, in collaboration with St. Petersburg Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov State Conservatory and composer Artem Pysy, has completed the first part of the "Anthology of Adyghe Symphonic Music: 1922-2022" project. The project was supported by the Presidential Cultural Initiatives Fund. The project team achieved a significant accomplishment, repairing rare manuscripts of all layers of Adyghe (Circassian) music, writing their notes and arrangements, conducting rehearsals, and finally recording the sound in digital format. The results of their work are now available to listen to on a double CD.
