Human Rights Center in Kabardino-Balkaria Republic Urges Russia to Aid Earthquake Victims in Turkey and Syria

According to Turkey's Federation of Caucasian Associations (KAFFED), The Human Rights Center of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic, along with representatives of non-governmental organisations and intellectuals, called upon the authorities of the Russian Federation to provide aid to their compatriots living in Turkey and Syria who have been affected by the earthquake. The statement highlighted that hundreds of Circassians died as a result of the earthquake, with thousands left disabled and tens of thousands homeless. Along with financial support, the statement also called for assistance to those who wish to move to their historical homeland of North Caucasus.

The People's Assembly of Abkhazia has approved the allocation of financial assistance to Syria and Turkey

The deputies of the Parliament approved a resolution on the allocation of 300 thousand dollars to the residents of Syria and Turkey who were affected by the earthquakes. Earlier, on February 15th, the Cabinet of Ministers of Abkhazia approved a resolution on the allocation of financial aid to the affected countries.

Ambassador of Abkhazia denied data on the number of compatriots killed in Syria

According to the Media Center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bagrat Khutaba, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Abkhazia to Syria, has denied reports that 12 Abkhazian compatriots were killed in an earthquake. The representative of Abkhazia in Syria emphasized that the diplomatic mission would provide any necessary information through the Abkhaz Foreign Ministry if required.

Human Rights Commissioner Comments on Abkhazian Parliament's Rejection of Security Law Amendments

Asida Shakryl, the Commissioner for Human Rights, commented on the decision of the deputies of the People's Assembly to reject amendments to the "On State Security Bodies" law. "I believe it is important to say that yesterday the deputies, by refusing the State Security Service of Abkhazia in unfounded expansion of powers of this agency, did not allow Abkhazia to turn towards authoritarian rule, did not allow the Abkhazian society to be immersed in an atmosphere of lies, denunciation, fear, and hopelessness," she stated.

Mass grave dating back to Stalinist repressions found in Dagestan

​​​​​​​During construction work near Makhachkala, 18 skeletons were discovered close to the Jami recreation center in Dagestan. According to a spokesperson for the Republican Interior Ministry, the human remains were found on a nearby beach. Upon receiving notification of the burial, the police have initiated an investigation and are coordinating with relevant departments, as reported by RIA Novosti. The Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation (ICR) for Dagestan has stated that the burial could be linked to the Stalinist repressions of the 1930s.
