This Connection is UntrustedYou have asked Firefox to connect securely to www.facebook.com, but we can't confirm that your connection is secure.Normally, when you try to connect securely, sites will present trusted identification to prove that you are going to the right place. However, this site's identity can't be verified. What Should I Do?If you usually connect to this site without problems, this error could mean that someone is trying to impersonate the site, and you shouldn't continue. This site uses HTTP Strict Transport Security (HSTS) to specify that Firefox only connect to it securely. As a result, it is not possible to add an exception for this certificate.www.facebook.com uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is not trusted because the issuer certificate is unknown. The server might not be sending the appropriate intermediate certificates. An additional root certificate may need to be imported.(Error code: sec_error_unknown_issuer)
Every security software on the market has a feature called SSL Scanning or SSL filtering. This is a feature that is designed to make sure that you do not accidentally visit a website with expired SSL Certificate (this is an algorithm that is supposed to protect your data on any website it is installed on). However, sometimes your security software could prevent you from visiting a website because it has tagged the SSL Certificate of that website as expired or invalid.
Firefox 3: "www.example.com uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is not trusted because the issuer certificate is unknown." or "www.example.com uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is not trusted because it is self signed."
Finally, security issues can also cause connection reset errors. This can include problems with SSL certificates, which can cause the connection to be terminated if the certificate is invalid or has expired. Other security settings, such as firewalls or other security software, can also cause connection reset errors if they are misconfigured or are blocking the connection.
If you were to visit www.facebook.com right now, you might share private information with an attacker. To protect your privacy, Chrome will not load the page until it can establish a secure connection to the real www.facebook.com.
Safari might think the address is invalid because the browser is experiencing problems in the background. This happens occasionally with any app. To fix it, quit Safari then open it and try to load the same page again.
You can think of your Domain Name System (DNS) as the address book your device uses to find particular websites on the Internet. If Safari cannot open a page because the address is invalid, there might be a problem with your DNS.
I was modifying a FEN inside my question, as soon as I made a change (which made the FEN invalid), my web browser went in not-responding mode and after 30 secs it asked me "a heavy script is running, bla bla, Do you want to stop it from running?".
Abstract. Web users are shown an invalid certificate warning when their browser cannot validate the identity of the websites they are visiting. While these warnings often appear in benign situations, they can also signal a man-in-the-middle attack. We conducted a survey of over 400 Internet users to examine their reactions to and understanding of current SSL warnings. We then designed two new warnings using warnings science principles and lessons learned from the survey. We evaluated warnings used in three popular web browsers and our two warnings in a 100-participant, between-subjects laboratory study. Our warnings performed significantly better than existing warnings, but far too many participants exhibited dangerous behavior in all warning conditions. Our results suggest that, while warnings can be improved, a better approach may be to minimize the use of SSL warnings altogether by blocking users from making unsafe connections and eliminating warnings in benign
situations.
I hate hate hate the firefox 3.x ssl certs warnings. this above behaviour is what they are encouraging. I have completely and totally stopped paying attention to ssl certs, because of the ff3 problems.
I agree with the suggestions of having browsers default to disallowing connections to invalid SSL sites, but there are legitimate reasons for connecting to servers with cert. mismatches. E.g., you manage a set of servers that are load-balanced under a single DNS entry, but need to connect to a particular one by machine name to diagnose a problem.
A https site with an invalid ssl cert is still safer than a site running on plain http. If a browser is displaying warnings for sites with bad certs, it would be consistent if it displayed warnings for all non-ssl sites as well.
This is standard behavior for firefox, I can observe the same in other operating systems. #2 does not happen if you write the address in a new tab, if that can help you. If you think this is a bug please file a bug with firefox.
please try the below steps and see if this helps
Step 1: Try commenting the custom rewrites file path in your vhost -> rerun and give a complete url which is invalid (/content/xyz/us/en/abc.html) and pls check If this page takes you to the /errors/404.html
