Still trying to get my dns3700 to work outside VDJ. Does anyone have experience using Mixvibes Cross/Cross DJ 4? the DNS3700 is in their supported hardware list so maybe someone here can tell me more before I dive into it. If you check the list under mac/windows, it says only compatible with cross, what does that mean exactly?TIAedit: forgot link Compatible Hardware - Mixvibes

Because VDJ is way to expensive, I dont use my gear enough to justify that price. I also make zero money from it, it is just a hobby. I checked Traktor Pro 3 before and again now, the dns3700 isnt listed under supported hardware. I want to use Cross because of the support and price tag. I already put miy decks up for sale, but it would be nice if I could keep them.

Maybe I used wrong the term. I find dedicated controllers a top priority then add the rest. From that point of view Remix live is still incomplete (also modstep for poor audio loops) and BM3 could be the true evolutionary one... but I still need warping.
ATM BlocsWave (even without remote control) gives me the best part of chooping/looping for beatmaking and ReSllice gives me the dose for finger drumming nostalgia.
Then launch controllers with Launchpad offer the perfect match for enjoying performing (more than Ableton) so I need something missing... dj app with warp/flexible grids... (frequency smartmixing or multiple outputs by frequency to AUM could be awesome...)

I agree about the dedicated controllers, makes you wonder cause I know mix vibes isn't the kind of outfit to skip things... I wonder how deep if any their midi mapping goes , if they have templates etc..?

They have (or almost had) ESI interfaces as audio interfaces for DVS line but I miss somekind of partnership with Samson or Akai (controller division). Samson conspiracy controller or Apc/Amx lines could be a win win situation for both companies...

@Dubbylabby I understand your point regarding warping on devices, however I'm not even sure it's technically feasible and if it is, probably very costly in terms of processing power/battery life. Considering how demanding warping is in Ableton Live for example, wouldn't be surprised it takes the same toll on iOS, except maybe better if it takes advantage of some iOS technologies?

Regarding dedicated MIDI controllers, the only thing I can say is that Mixvibes has been out of the hardware-making loop for a while and we are definitely not looking to enter it again. However that doesn't mean MIDI compatibility is entirely out the window, and as you may have seen with Akai's recent MPC Live and its integration of Ableton Link, there are interesting things being done at the intersection of hardware and mobile technologies being developed all the time. So it's still definitely a possibility, just maybe don't hold your breath on it for now.

@Mixvibes Hi - your scratching emulation in Cross DJ is really good. Feature request - I would love to be able to make the turntable plus crossfader full screen and place markers on the waveform bar across the top so you could cue up some scratches.

You can also place up to eight cue points that you could use as markers, however as far as I know it's not possible to have the cue buttons and the turntable in the same full screen view. You can however click on the cue points you made in the waveform above the turntable so technically there is that too.

There's normally a "Restore" button in the upper right-hand corner of the Sample packs store window. Tapping on it should enable iOS to look into which in-apps you have already purchased using your Apple ID, and automatically enable download buttons for the already-purchased in-apps. Consequently, if this doesn't work, tapping the "buy" button next to a pack you have already purchased and going through the process should trigger the same outcome, i.e. downloading the pack without paying it again.

If by sheer stroke of unluck, the app charges you again, please ask Apple directly for a refund. However if you are using the same Apple ID it should work, and I've never had someone be charged with the same pack twice as long as they are logged in with the same account...

The Good: Many new video features, including audio/video players and audio/video samplers; video effects, mixing, recording, and sampling; text and image titling; and more. Rekordbox sync. Well-rounded set of DJing essentials, like Beatgrid editing, Head-Up Display, master out limiter, recording, interface customization, MIDI mapping & multi-controller support.

For the big wow factor on Cross 3, Mixvibes stepped up the video support from basic playback and transitions to high-level video mixing that compares well against the video implementation of any other DJ software.

You can load videos from the browser to decks A or B, or drag videos from the desktop. The display above each player shows the video with any effects applied, and the center master display shows the mixed video with any crossfader transition effects, still image titling, or text titling effects added. A display icon button in the menu bar sends that master video output to an external display.

Another great Preferences option lets you decouple the video from the channel volume fader. By default, a video with audio will fade out with the channel fader, but with the aforementioned option, the video will stay up while you fade out or kill the audio with the volume fader.

Mixvibes could improve that in an update either by making the effect menu consist of all 18 video effects when the FX slots are routed to the video only, or by providing more than 14 options for audio/video effects so that you could have the option to try out more combinations from the FX slot menu. Of course, if they wanted to go even bigger, they could create new FX slots dedicated to video, with the option to link them to the audio FX.

On a positive note, you can get some really trippy combinations of audio and video effects going, where the tempo-synced oscillations of the Echo, X-Phaser, Flanger and other audio effects surreally sync up the video effects like Ripple, Bloom, Displace, Flash, etc.

Just like in the player decks, videos with assigned or analyzed tempos can be synced to the Master. Having the video samplers makes it possible to launch video or audio/video clips in rhythmic performance fashion from a pad or button controller, something you rarely find outside of specialized VJ software.

During the heaviest use, I had two decks playing videos with separate audio tracks in the same deck, both FX decks playing audio/video effects, a crossfader transition, a titling effect and active sampler decks. A few other programs were also open: Mixed in Key 6, a word processor for this review and Evernote. On one occasion Mixvibes crashed outright, and on another occasion, the software experienced a couple of audio hiccups in succession as I dragged a file from the browser to a deck.

Depending on what you currently use to DJ, you may miss some audio features if you switch to Cross. But Mixvibes has demonstrated over the last two years a commitment to developing Cross into a world-class software. It already has all the basics and many of the advanced features it would need for that. It could stand to beef up its performance looping, slicing and effects options a bit more.
