Dear colleague,

You're invited to join the Household Water Treatment and Safe Storage (HWTS) Network and the World Health Organization (WHO) for a live webinar to discuss the results of evaluating household water treatment technologies.

Webinar: Evaluating household water treatment technologies: lessons from the WHO Evaluation Scheme

The objective of the WHO International Scheme to Evaluate Household Water Treatment Technologies (the Scheme) is to consistently and independently evaluate the microbial performance of household water treatment technologies, and guide product selection.

The
Scheme provides member states and procuring agencies with evidence on performance of these technologies, which helps build the capacity of low-income countries to strengthen regulation and testing.

In Round III of the Scheme, we evaluated 18 products representing ultraviolet (UV), solar and chemical disinfection, as well as filtration technologies.

Join us for a live webinar for a discussion and Q&A about the latest results

Evaluating household water treatment technologies: lessons from the WHO Evaluation Scheme
Tuesday, September 28 | 15:30 - 16:15 CEST / 09:30 - 10:15 EST

In this webinar, we’ll cover WHO performance criteria for household water treatment, and present the results of Round III of the Scheme. We’ll also build on the results of the additional 30 products evaluated in Rounds I-II, and highlight lessons learned on key performance considerations for various technologies.

Can’t attend live? The webinar will be available on demand. If you register, we’ll send you a link to view the recording.

Learning objectives:

  • Build awareness of WHO International Scheme to Evaluate Household Water Treatment Technologies (the Scheme), WHO health-based performance criteria and application of evaluation criteria in HWT selection
  • Understand the impact of manufacturing quality and ‘weak points’ of various technologies in HWT performance
  • Discuss implications and uptake of Scheme findings in countries and implementation efforts

About the speakers:

  • Nikki Beetsch is a Technical Project Manager for the World Health Organization.
  • Marcio Botto is a Knowledge and Research Advisor for the Centre for Affordable Water and Sanitation Technology (CAWST). His portfolio of expertise centers on civil engineering and spans across environmental sanitation, acting on solar water disinfection, municipal water supply and wastewater systems, ecological sanitation, public health, and urban solid waste management.
  • Knox Coleman is a PhD student in the Water Institute at UNC working with the Water, Sanitation, Hygiene and Health unit at the World Health Organization. His research is focused on developing novel treatment solutions for drinking water treatment and improving methods for evaluating point-of-use treatment devices.
  • Batsirai Majuru is a Technical Officer in the Water, Sanitation, Hygiene and Health unit at the World Health Organization. Her work is focused on water quality and regulation, where she manages the day-to-day operations of the WHO International Scheme to Evaluate Household Water Treatment Technologies, and coordinates the WHO International Network of Drinking-water and Sanitation Regulators.
  • Eva Manzano is a Senior Global WASH Advisor for CAWST. She leads the organization's service delivery in Latin America, working closely with governments and other agencies to support capacity development to practitioners, particularly in household water treatment.
