The following Grow Tips were primarily prepared when raising tomatoes.
However, they will be useful for cleaning up almost any hydroponics
crop after harvesting. They will help to keep your grow-room disease-
free and go a long way toward having a healthy crop during the next
growing cycle
Tip # 1 - Stop the flow of water and nutrients to the slabs or beds a
few days before removing them from the grow-room. This will help start
the drying process.
Tip # 2 - Pull out the roots but leave the rest of the plant still
supported by strings or clamps. This will cause the plant to lose
considerable water and reduce the weight of the crop making it easier
to haul out.
Tip # 3 - Dispose of the plants in the garbage, on a compost pile or
bury them some distance from the grow-room to avoid infecting a new
crop with disease or insects.
Tips # 4 - After all the plants are removed, sweep the floors and
clean up any counters or tables to be assured that no plant debris is
left.
Tips # 5 - Finally, wipe down the walls, equipment, tools, hoses,
fixtures, vents and other grow-room material with a 1 % solution of
hydrogen peroxide. However, whatever cleaner you use, it should not
leave a toxic residue which might have a detrimental effect on your
next crop.
