Selecting the right nutrients isn't always easy. There are many brands
and even more formulas. So, what do you look for?
You can start by comparing the ingredients listed on labels. However,
this won't tell you the whole story.
Manufacturers of inexpensive nutrients often add minute quantities of
costly but important ingredients to their formulas so they can be
listed on the ingredient label. But the quantities are so small they
are mostly ineffective.
The only certain way to tell whether a nutrient is right for your crop
is to test it. Select a product from a quality manufacturer with a
good reputation. Your retail hydroponics dealer can help you with
this.
Follow the directions on the container and use the nutrients in the
recommended amounts throughout the growing cycle. But here's the
important part. Keep a record.
Note amounts added and how often. Track the growth of your crop as
well as the health. Be particularly alert for any signs that might
indicate your plants are not getting enough nutrients.
You may discover the right hydroponics products for your crop or
growing system the first time you test. Or, you may have to test
several products before finding the nutrient products that work best
for you. It takes time but it's well worth the effort.
Remember, buy performance not price.
