There is another important thing that must be said about context. Context can function as historical explanation but not as moral justification. Context opens a field of possible actions but does not determine them. If there is agency there is responsibility and there is nothing in the historical context that prescribes or justifies atrocities against civilians. Palestinians have the right and duty to resist their occupiers. Israel, as any country, is bound by the duty of equality, and the massacres of civilians cannot be justified by any context, however violent. History is not the mechanical transfer of one manifestation of violence to another. There is always choice, and each owns their own violence.
German intervention amplifies both antisemitism and Islamophobia, with mounting hate crimes against both Jews and Muslims the direct consequence. In Germany as elsewhere, the safety of Jews and Palestinians is interdependent.
5-aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA) preparations (eg, mesalazine, mesalamine) are well-established preparations used in the management of inflammatory bowel disease. These drugs are most useful for the treatment of mild to moderate flares of ulcerative colitis and, especially, for maintenance of remission. Although most gastroenterologists are very familiar with these drugs, the interest in these drugs has undergone a resurgence, with new preparations offering convenience and high dosage, while preserving their customary safety. New dosage regimens are likely to become standard practice in the near future. There is also considerable interest in chemoprevention of colorectal cancer in the context of inflammatory bowel disease, and the role of long-term maintenance therapy with 5-ASAs in achieving such chemoprevention. A mechanism of action for such chemoprevention has been provided by the agonism of the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma by 5-ASA, which unifies its efficacy as an anti-inflammatory and chemopreventive agent. In the future, even more effective agents based on 5-ASA are expected, based on more powerful agonism of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma; 5-ASA preparations have become 'trendy' again.
House Republicans have once again failed to pass their extreme, partisan funding bills. It is abundantly clear they do not have the votes. Last night, I called for a meeting of the Democratic and Republican leaders of the Appropriations Committee to begin a good-faith conference process. If we do not start now, we will face another shutdown threat or need another continuing resolution that no one wants.
The U.S. Supreme Court is saying again that Alabama needs a new congressional map. Again and again and again, Alabama legislators have drawn congressional districts. Again and again and again, critics have said the maps violate the Voting Rights Act by diluting the power of Black voters. Courts, including the Supreme Court, have rejected the state's maps, but Alabama lawmakers keep going. And now the Supreme Court has rejected the state a second time.
While the Seattle Sounders and LAFC have only been competing against each other for five years, it has quickly become one of the biggest matchups in Major League Soccer. On Sunday, that young rivalry will take center stage as the two clubs meet in the Western Conference Semifinals at Lumen Field (6:30 p.m. PT; Watch on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV, 950 KJR AM, El Rey 1360AM, Sirius XM FC 157 TICKETS).
One year later, the Sounders hosted LAFC in Round One of the postseason. The visitors were eager for revenge, but Seattle largely controlled the match and once again secured a 3-1 victory en route to another MLS Cup Final appearance.
The only exception here may once again be TRAP laws. Four of the states hit hardest by the consequences of TRAP laws over this time period in terms of clinic closures also saw declines in the abortion rate that were larger than the national average of 20%: Arizona (27%), Ohio (27%), Texas (30%) and Virginia (42%).13 Kentucky, which lost one of its two clinics because of the implementation of TRAP regulations, had an abortion rate decline that was slightly lower than the national average (18%).
Antiabortion activists often argue that more people are turning against abortion rights and that this shift in attitudes can explain broad-based declines in the number of abortions across the country, including in states that did not enact new restrictions. Under this theory, changes in public opinion compel more pregnant individuals to choose to give birth rather than obtain an abortion. This theory is flawed on several levels.
It would have been difficult to envision this type of reversal during the first week of March, when Stanford (24-3, 9-0 Pac-12) checked in at No. 46 in the national rankings, its lowest position in school history. The Cardinal was sitting at a modest 4-3 overall, with its three losses coming against postseason regulars such as Vanderbilt, Texas and Florida. Junior All-American Melissa Lord wasn't expected back for three more weeks following a shoulder injury and for the first time since the NCAA shifted to a 64-team field in 1999, Stanford was in serious jeopardy of not even hosting the first and second rounds for the first time.
It certainly didn't matter when Vanderbilt (27-4, 12-1 SEC) secured the doubles point and grabbed a 1-0 lead in Tuesday's match. After all, Stanford had been in this exact position against North Carolina in the round of 16 and Duke in the semifinals. The Cardinal has now won 15 of its last 20 matches when losing the doubles point, a remarkable stretch that covers the last three years.
Women are still employed as teachers, nurses and doctors, but in fewer numbers and with lower wages. Overall, the professional workforce that was once a source of economic growth, family welfare and vital services for women has shrunk dramatically. Many professionals are now struggling to make ends meet with small, in-home enterprises like sewing and mending, which does little to replace both the income and the dignity of a salaried, professional position.
Increased agricultural production is key to improving livelihoods on a broad scale, but the opium ban increases the headwinds against the rural economy. Irrigation projects (one of which, Qush-teppe in northern Afghanistan, is currently underway) and expanding agricultural exports will be needed.
Wood fuel is the main energy source for Chadian households, the vast majority of whom have limited income to afford domestic gas especially in the midst of inflation. The fight against tree felling is a challenge for the Chadian government authorities, despite the existence of a law prohibiting it.

In the 2023 Military Times Best for Vets rankings, Syracuse once again secured a position in the top 10% of private nonprofit colleges and universities, emphasizing its dedication to providing exceptional educational opportunities for those who have served. Additionally, Syracuse University clinched second place among colleges and universities in the Northeast.
The University has yet again placed support for veterans and military-connected students among its top priorities within the new Academic Strategic Plan. In previous years, the University has overhauled admissions processes, registration procedures, credit transfer policies, new student orientation and housing policies to align with the unique needs of potential military-connected students.
The Cardiothoracic Surgery Division at Stony Brook University Hospital (SBUH) has once again earned the distinguished three-star rating from The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) for its patient care and outcomes in isolated coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG or heart bypass surgery) procedures. The three-star rating awarded for the July 2020 to June 2023 analytic period denotes the highest category of quality and places SBUH among the elite for heart bypass surgery in the United States and Canada. Stony Brook University Hospital received its first three-star rating in 2017 and has consistently received top ratings since.
Once again, Williamson County recorded the state's lowest unemployment rate at 2.7 percent, which represented a 0.1 of a percentage point decrease from the previous month. With a rate of 2.9 percent, Davidson and Rutherford Counties had the second lowest rates in Tennessee. The Rutherford County rate was 0.2 of a percentage point lower than it was in August, while Davidson County experienced a 0.1 percentage point drop.
